All I want to do is sit and play

.......with some of my craft stuff and really play and get rid of some of those UFOs and maybe start some new projects as well.  Finishing some of the UFOs would help de-clutter a little bit.

I now have my dads desk in situ in the computer/craft room.  It will be dual purpose for my computer and also my sewing machine and over locker as well as other craft paraphernalia.

I have three pairs of trousers that need the seams reinforcing and new zips the trousers are still sound and plenty of wear in them so therefore worth repairing.  Fortunately I was one of the generations that were taught to cook and sew and I have O level dressmaking and cooking although admittedly its a while ago since I did any serious sewing.

I have sorted out socket boards. I quite fancy a new sewing machine especially one with some embroidery stitches on.  will have to have a good look around and see what is available. I have ended up in the past on two separate occasions buying machines that I was never totally happy with.  only cheaper ones and I have promised myself a new one in due course.  It would really help with my home made Christmas ethos for next year.  I might make do until II can find something that will give me plenty of scope as I do not want to make an expensive mistake.  I quite like the look of the Janome although I am aware there are other machines available.

I am hoping to start one of the men's shirts quilts over the holidays.  It's an itch I have to scratch but I have to find my own way round things.  I am sometimes a very slow learner equally other things I can pick up quickly but until it goes in and I have practiced I tend to be uncertain with things. And people then think I am a little dense.  Besides I have a dressmaking fabric stash to reduce.  much of it bought in Australia over 30 years ago.

  2. What a lovely exciting idea to carry into the New Year. I am sure when you have done your research you will buy wisely. My friend Dawn would be a good one to advise you I'm certain. She is one of your followers so may well comment.

I hope you get time to work at your crafts over the Christmas break. I would love to just settle down wit some of my UFO's too but am still at the getting everything ready stage.

    1. Hi BB its something I have been thinking about for a while. I have had my eye on a Janome for quite some time. I will ask Dawn as I trust her opinion. I also follow Dawn BB. I received my Bigshot die cutting and embossing machine for Christmas so I am well chuffed. I have been playing a little this afternoon. Very relaxing. Must do more of. Hope you have had a lovely time with your OH and the girls. Take care Pattypanxx

  3. I know what you mean about play! I don't seem to have enough hours in the day at the moment even though I am off work. I went through a sewing phase and decided I needed a "proper" sewing machine that could do everything. I ended up giving it to my mum who appreciates it much more than I ever did. I now know that I am only happy on my 120 year old treadle. Just the basic will do for my needs.
I'm so pleased you are managing to blog still and hope that your internet problems are sorted out. I made your mums plum pudding and red cabbage the other day and both are delicious.

    1. Hi Fluffy - time is a manmade thing its just I never have enough of it. All the girls in my family were taught to sew and cook - a family tradition that has helped us through leaner times as it has helped us repair things or alter things and save money were necessary by revamping things. I cannot get on the lap top at present am having to hijack OHs computer but I am, hoping to do something about that very shortly. I am glad you enjoyed the plum bread and the pickled red cabbage. Hope you have had a lovely time. Pattypanxx

    1. Hi Trudie it means a lot; my Dad wrote a novel at this particular desk and was looking to get it published just before he passed. So a different type of creativity has been achieved at the desk to what I have planned. I will show some photos of the items that I complete as I work through them. I was chuffed with the Decoupage picture/frames - I am trying to repair the decoupage and get the frames lines up again as someone has so obviously spent a lot of time doing it in the first time. I would be a shame to trash it. Failing which they will be lovely in their own right.

Hope you are keeping well and have had a lovely time with you and your loved ones.

      Take care

  5. I got my Janome last year and I love it, was recommended by friends who sew very beautiful quilts and things, some have two to cover when one is being serviced...I do everything I need and it has beautiful embroidery stitches ...my previous machine was 32 years old and well the comparison well I would be writing until New Year. Dawn is so knowledgeable as Bovey Belle said.. I didn't know her when I bought my machine but would ask her if I was looking for another machine.xx

  6. Hi Maria

I have had my eye on the Janome for sometime as quilting and patchwork are on my to do list and I also like embroidery. I am hoping I can aspire and afford to buy one, so I will wait and see what I can come up with. I would appreciate Dawn's help as I trust her judgment. If I can afford it, it will be a lovely present from my mum. Hope you have had a lovely Christmas.
