New Year's Eve

It is New Year's Eve and we are going into the last few hours of 2015.  A bittersweet year from my perspective but life goes on.  There are new pages to be written new experiences to be had new things to do. New friends to be made new places to go a whole rich tapestry waiting for us in the wings.  Change -  the word that a lot of people do not like.  But we have to embrace change its the only way we grow so that we do not stagnate.  In other words its healthy.  We might resist it because it is happening and sometimes that change happens irrespective of circumstances or us wanting to change.  But change it happens for a reason.

There have been many positive things too; I have lost some weight which impacts so badly on my movement and my joints.  Not sure why I have lost it but I tend to be flying around a lot more than I used to. I do a lot of walking and I use an app on my phone to measure how many steps I do in a day and for the best part I do well over 6000 steps a day.  That's without the phone being on me all the time.   Sometimes  forget to take it with me.  So that may be the reason i.e. am on the go a lot more but I am glad its gone/going as it really does impact quite badly on my movement and my joints.  It is especially important as I have been told that I have restricted movement in  my hips and that arthritis is quite badly affecting them.

I have a bad habit of prevaricating about things and not really dealing with issues; a lot of the time because I am not really sure how to deal with things as it is areas where I have no experience.  As a result it is often a deep learning curve resulting in no confidence in myself because quite literally I feel that the rug has been taken out from underneath my feet.  Yet when I get things in perspective and sorted out in my own mind I can get through and deal with things quite swiftly.  But I need the time to get things straight and I do not always get the luxury of time.  My Father when he was with us was my sounding board and we used to clear off to the pub once a month and put things into perspective.

I am lucky that I was let out early from work today.  We were let loose at 12 noon.  I promptly cleared off to an impromptu lunch with two of my work friends and we had a very lovely dinner and a two hour chat in Fratelli Tavolacalda in the Rivergate Centre in Peterborough near Asda.  We all had different types of pizza It is the best pizza I have had in a long time.  It was really light and crispy and oh so tasty.  I really do rate and recommend them and it is not over-expensive.  It was nice to catch up on a personal level we are all ladies of similar age.  Pure mischief.

I then popped into town and bought myself a new pair of navy trousers and a lovely new navy cowl neck fluffy jumper.  I had also found a pair of fine baby needle cord navy trousers as well in M & S but they would not sell them to me as apparently there was a product recall.  I was a bit annoyed as I really did like the trousers will have to keep my eye open to see if they come back in.  I was a size smaller in trouser size than the last time I purchased any.

Remember on a previous post I mentioned I had bought a couple of pine cone garlands which were bright red.  I went by John Lewis today and they had some more of the same garland this time reduced to £3.75.  So another two joined the two already purchased.  They are for next year.

I am hoping to really get a wriggle on for Christmas next year.  There are a couple of chutneys that I intend to make in January in readiness for next Christmas and various other bits and bobs for use during the year and also for the Christmas Putdown.  I want to be able to have everything organised and sorted well in advance so that I can enjoy the messing about and the decorating beforehand.

Right it only remains for me to wish every single one of you a really Happy New Year.

I usually see New Year in on my own as OH does not usually stay up.

Cheers, Bottoms up and see you on the other side.

Next Year's Christmas Decorations

I went into town at dinner and on my way back to the office I called in at the Works cheapie book shop.  Prior to Christmas they had some lanterns for £10 each which although lovely I was not prepared to pay £10 each for.

Move on a few weeks and the next thing is spend £15 and you would get one of the lanterns free. Today I went in there were not many left.  However they were £5 each.  So I snaffled a couple and they are in the box ready for next year's Christmas.  Which is very appropriate as tomorrow is New Year's Eve and the countdown to another year.

These two lanterns will look lovely on the long oblong mirror I have which is in a white frame which I proposed using as a table centre with the edge surrounded by Greenery.

Together with these little lanterns

I have four of each.  You can put tea lights in but I managed to get some battery operated flicker tea lights so no naked flames at all although you could if you wanted.  These came from the £ shop

I shall keep my eyes peeled for "bargains" that are not expensive and which I can stockpile during the year as well as make as much as I can.

I have a lot of Christmas cards in readiness for next year.  However I do need to source some Christmas paper as I am running low.  Although I might make that come a nice bright spring day where I can get the paint out and play.

Right upwards and onwards.

Catch you soon.

Ponderings

Why are we suddenly giving storms names?  We never have done really up until now.  Even though I am quite solidly built walking into work today was a bit hairy as the wind was taking me where it wanted me to be never mind that I did not want to go.  It was the same at dinner time.

It was even hairier when I came out of work and it was raining.  We need the rain because of the drier summers that we are experiencing.  We would not survive without it.

However I am very concerned that people are suffering in this country through no fault of their own because of our own Government taking short cuts and not honouring the reason that they are where they are in the first place because they were voted in by somebody.

This country has a social conscience.  We give to whatever good cause is going.  Sometimes though Charity really does begin at home.  We should and must look after our own too.  It would be false economy to neglect our own country to help one that does not look after its own people and is corrupt.

Building on land and flood planes, re-designating land for crops for fuel and taking the stability away from the soil and then flooding is something that really is despicable and speaks of a Government continually undermining its public and hoping against hope (cowering in a corner) that it does not get found out.  The Government lets money speak at all points and all times - how morally wrong is that. I would suggest morally bankrupt. Turning on this recent display I do not think I trust the Government to make decisions for me they are proving themselves incapable not just on one occasion but many occasions.

I thought that Government were put in place to do the best for its populace not businesses or money. In fact I do not believe that businesses or monied folk should have a say when it comes to the politics of this country. If they were doing their level best for the populace, we would not be having the flooding and being impacted by land use being re-designated and suffering soil erosion as a consequence.  These systems were in place many years before they have always worked there was a reason for them being in place in the first instance.  So why change something when its not brock!  Someone somewhere who knows better and knows nothing is rolling around like a loose cannon somewhere.

Tesla apparently had in place plans a system a network for everyone to have free power - I use the word free which would have benefited everyone.  That project was not allowed to see the light of day.  I wonder why.  In fact I think we should have a system like that  it would take an awful lot of ego power away from individuals who should have no say in the first place.  People should not have to starve, and be flooded out and be unsafe in their homes because of someone's mistake.  Please note it is not the Governments fault it is always someone else's yet you can bet a shilling to a pound that they have had their mucky little hands in it somewhere and are up to their grubby little necks in it.  That is cheating its populace left right and centre.

I think that there should be an enquiry into what exactly the Government has been up to directly or by omission.  It should be made to face the music.

Sorry I am a bit irritated by the lack of care that is shown to our people  - especially when they are very much a caring nation.

What next I wonder!

In the interim though my heart goes out to those affected and I hope things are put right soon.

Catch you soon.

Back to Work and a little Melancoly

Back to work today and it has been a busy one a bit of a shock to the system after the precious time off for Christmas, but hey I am not the only one I think we have all been a bit out of synch today.

Its not long a matter of days before we are into the New Year and we sadly say goodbye to yet another year. That is 57 New Year's I have seen go by. 2015 the year in which we lost mum and our lives were tipped upside down leaving us to do the best we could in the circumstances and to start to pull the fragments together again as best we could.  Mum and Dad would expect nothing less of us both.  Life is for living and making the best of what comes our way.  Its about finding a way through emotional difficult circumstances  individually and together but move on we must in the flow of life to be participants not just voyeurs or people watchers but taking part and being actively involved. Taking part does not mean that we forget how could we ever do that but the tide of life moves on and the longer you stand still the quicker the waves lap around your feet. What is awaiting for us on the other side is yet to be revealed lets hope everyone is blessed.

I am very lucky in that our family is an extremely close and positive one.  We may not have much else but that family connection is worth everything especially when one is at a low ebb and they have been wonderful with my brother and I even though they are scattered on the four winds.

However the New Year fast approaches we are going to have a new page to fill together with a new page number.  New events to experience new people to meet. Already change is in the air.  My stepson and his long suffering girlfriend became engaged a week before Christmas and are already making plans to marry (no date as yet but preparation is I understand well in hand).  We are pleased for the pair of them they are very well suited.

My eldest nephew is part way through his Masters course in Physics at Warwick University.  He attained a 2.1 with Honours for his degree course.

My youngest nephew will take his A levels and then hopefully goes up to University in September.  It will be strange  for my brother and sister in law to start with after having either both boys or just one of them at home.  But onwards they must go ever onwards.  Mum had tried so desperately to be around to see the youngest one pass his A levels and go up to University but it was not to be.

Education is a wonderful thing but it is just not down to our Teachers to teach our young people, it is down to their parents to give them extra teaching and support at home.  It is always a two way moving vehicle that gives every child eager to learn the best of starts and the support and nurturing that plays a behind the scenes big part in personal education and motivation and enables our young people to fly.  That is incredibly satisfying.

Catch you soon.
