WIP - Work in progress the Butterfly Cushion

I knew I said I wouldnt start this project until the hot water bottle covers were done but this piece just spoke to me.  So I Just did a teeny weeny piece.  It didnt stop there though.

Quite a bit more worked. I am not happy with the palest shade of blue provided it is more like a grey.  Not what I expected at all. But its working up reasonably quickly and I enjoy the rythm of the hand work. Its even relatively neat on the back for me. Its silly but this kit reminds me of the summer meadows that we used to play in as children going newting and tiddling with a butterfly net and chasing the butterflies with our nets and bumble bees popping them into jars to study ghem and then setting them free.  All of that is not politically correct these days but this is what children did.  I do feel so that subsequent generations have missed out on so much freedom.  If you double click on the pictures you will be able to see which areas I have worked thus far.

Since then I have gone onto work some more of the panel and now half of the Butterfly is to all intent and purposes worked.  I am enjoying working this panel and it is working up a lot quicker than I had anticipated but I keep chugging away at it.

So I am gradually making inroads into this project.

Another session of stitching accomplished. Nearly another quarter of the Butterfly worked.  I think this is going to look lovely once completed.

I still have a lot more to do will do an update once a little more is worked and the hot water bottle covers finished.

Theres no hope for me!

Catch you soon.

  1. That looks lovely Patty - beautiful colours - doesn't matter which project you're working on as long as you're enjoying it, as all our UFO's get finished eventually - take care xx

    1. Hi Trudie just got a real itch to get a wriggle on with the cuzhion cover. The actual coloured items are working up reasinably quickly. Have never done a cross stitch needlepoint before. I suspect it will be the background which will take longer to complete. It has a cream bsckground. I just wish I was a bit faster working but I just seem to have this steady pace. I am however enjoying myself. This is just one of numerous projects that are either work in progress or are new kits to work and of course there are still the second hand items purchased part completed. I love embroidery too and Ribbon weaving. I just like lovely things. I do not drink smoke or go out a lot and my real weakness is my home. I like things to be nice. My first husband was the same. We do the best we can here in this rented property but a lot of the stuff I am msking is for my forever home. I know it will happen when the timing is right. But in the meantime have to keep myself occupied. Are you making anything at the moment. Take care. Pattypan xx

    2. Hi Patty
I'm into sewing and crocheting at the moment - I've just finished my first jelly roll quilt (first quilt I've ever made really) for my little Granddaughter and I fully enjoyed it but it was hard work trying to stuff the body of the quilt through the throat of a little ordinary sewing machine so I've started saving for a proper quilting machine now.

Like you, I have a number of UFO'S I have a half crocheted double bed size blanket in Attic 24's wavy pattern waiting to be finished along with a 2 inch hexi quilt waiting for more work to be done on it.(hand sewing)

I've also got another hexi and diamond pattern quilt on its way in Xmas fabrics (hand sewing again and about a quarter done) and last week I cut and sewed a moda jelly roll on the sewing machine to start a log fence quilt .....you know I ever finish all these blankets and quilts - there aren't enough beds in this house to put them on!!

Finally I made some Xmas cushions last November- I embroidered things like 'It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas' and 'All is calm, all is bright - Merry Christmas to you' on the centre panels and then patch worked blocks of 2 inch squares either side of the embroidered panel and I was really pleased with how they turned out.

Sorry to have rabbited on but thought I'd let you know that you're not on your own having lots of UFO'S and that we all do get them finished eventually and they say that variety is the spice of life! Lol - hope you're ok and enjoying your time at home xxx

    3. Hi Trudie very similar to me with your projects i too have some unfinished blankets to deal with as well as cross stitch needleloint embroidery beadwirk ribbon weaving. Funnily enough a Ripple blanket is also on the list. I would quite like an embriidery machine and I like the Janomes. However I shall speak to my cousin first before I buy as I know she has a very good one that she does all sorts with however I dont have lots of pennies so I may just upgrade to a different embroidery machine and a separate good sewing machine with quilting facility too. Will have to have a kook around. I am cautious as I was sold a previous machine which did not do what I wanted it to do despite the seller indicating otherwise. But that will have to be for the future. Catch up soon. Pattypan xx

    1. Hi Sarah. It is a pretty kit which I have had for a little while and I am enjoying making it. It is one of a lot of kits that I have had put up for a few years and I have a lot of part completed kits to clear up to. I am trying to complete some of them as well as make things for Christmas next year on all fronts. I enjoy all the planning and the making and having family and friends near at Christmas too. Do you do any crafting at all and if you do have you anything on the go at the moment. Take care. Pattypan xx

    2. Thanks for replying. I knit crochet, sew and cross stitch. I am trying to finish a cross stitch project at the moment which I first started a number of years ago of a country cottage. Just the back stitch and French knots left.

    3. Hi Sarah I do all these too. A lit of my Ufos relate to some bigger cross stitch kits but despite having a couple of good craft lamps but have found as I am getting older that its better for me to work in daylight where I can differentiate between the colours better. So the cross stitch tends to be at weekends only when I can find the time. I dint mind doing yhe french or bullion knots but the back stitch drives me scranny. Hope you get your picture finished soon. Take care Pattypan xx
