Sunday Autumn Afternoon

Grey, dismal wet, torrential rain.  A typical grizzly autumn afternoon here in Peterborough and out in the Fen.  In fact I would go so far as to say that the cloud is lower lying over Peterborough than it is in the actual Fen itself.  We have been over the tip at Whittlesey, despite it raining we have gone and got the rubbish out of the front garden.  There will be another batch next week but that will be next week.  It is cold weather as well, when the rain touches your skin it leaves you cold so the pair of us were pleased to get back into the house and get a warm drink into us.  I still have not popped the heating on.  We are trying to hold out a little longer before popping it on as once it goes on we will want it on regularly.  So holding off for the time being as best we can.  Extra jumpers or sweatshirts going on - it is not cold per se in the house its just it gets chilly.

We have roast chicken for tea this evening, with roast potatoes, parsnips and onion and I think a little stuffing. and bread sauce.  Served with peas, carrots, French beans and a little mashed potato.  Think that will do and then pancakes for pudding.  Will then put one of the slow cookers on later on and make some chicken stock for soup during the week.  That will be left on overnight and then left to cool and then packaging up and putting in the freezer.  We are now well into the seasons of soups and stews and comfort food of all descriptions.  Good substantial meals of this type help keep the wolf from the door and keep you warm and healthy against the cold and damp of the English weather.

I just feel like sitting down and watching TV now.  For me that is what Sunday afternoons at this time of the year are for, especially if I have some crochet in my hand being worked as well. Cosy and comfortable.  Just wish had that real log fire would be the icing on the cake.

Right had better get a wriggle on.  Tea needs preparing in any event and I have some more stuff in the kitchen to do.  Not far off being finished yet.

Catch you soon.
