Snow Day

After a very cold night we woke up to a very sharp haw frost, no snow but extremely cold.

Whilst having our morning cuppa we then had a small snow shower which soon dissipated only light, but still snow.

A little later on we then had a hail storm which has quickly been followed by large flakes of the fluffy stuff and it is settling.  All I can say is that Mrs Claus must be having a good session in fluffing up Santa's feather pillows.

It has continued for a while and it is settling on wet pavements so when it freezes later it will be extremely slippy underfoot.  We only ever seem to have light snow showers compared to the rest of the country but as I have said before I think that is down to the fact that we are very low lying.  Still it is pretty to see.  We need cold winters to kill off nasty bugs of any description particularly in the garden.

Since the earlier photos it has been gently snowing for the best part and everything is now starting to get covered.  It is settling and OH has just taken Missy out for her constitutional.   I am staying in the warm I would like to say by the fire hearth, however I do not have one, but we do have a warm house now which is the main thing.

The photos have been taken sporadically throughout the day showing the layering up that the snow is doing at different times of the day.  It has not stopped snowing all afternoon.  OH indicated when he came back with Missy that the flakes of snow are a lot bigger than you think many the size of actual feathers and that there is quite a bit of it.  The local kids have been out in the park near where he walks her building snowmen and having a right time of it.

The reason why this has been posted later in the day rather than earlier is that it has taken sometime for my photos to download.

We have had roast pork, apple sauce, roast potatoes, mashed potatoes peas and carrots with cabbage for tea.  I think that will be plenty of meat for a few days as well.  It was extremely tasty.

Temperature is down to minus 1 at the moment due to go down to minus 3 from midnight until about 7:00am.
It is not snowing at the moment, but it does look as though the snow is starting to melt as it does not appear as thick as it was.  It is however freezing.

Take care and keep safe wherever you may be.
