Lovely Day Out

With my friend L in Stamford.  We had a lovely two to three hours wandering round an antiques centre.  Its a good job I was brassic as otherwise a few antiquey pieces and probably a couple of pieces of furniture might have found their way home including a lovely salt glaze large batter bowl in supreme condition.  My friend had not really appreciated what sort of things I am in to on the antiquey front but I think she does now!

There was a beautiful envelope style with inlaid marquetry with its original baize and superb inner condition that I would quite loved to have bought.  It was in superb condition for its age.

There were some original carbouys, beautiful dessert servers, fragile glass domes and cake stands, beautiful menu place setting in the shape of crinoline ladies a main menu holder and six place name settings that were in superb condition also.  a couple of pitchers, one celebrating the harvest which would look lovely on my dresser.  A lot of the prices were not too bad either in the greater scheme of things.

Lots of nice brass and copper, mirrors, small chests, pine blanket boxes.  There was a beautiful pine washstand with marble top.  All to die for.  However it costs nothing to look.

We then went for some lunch at a local cafĂ©.  We had Stilton and Broccoli soup with beautiful thick chunks of bread and then a large slice of banana cake each and a pot of tea.  It went down very nicely.

Then we started wandering the passages of Stamford and finding interesting little shops in quaint back alleys and finding expensive china shops and gift shops.

All in all I have had a lovely day out with a really good friend.  That time is precious and I am grateful for it.

Now to see to homely things.

Catch you later on.

  1. It's always so tempting when you see lovely things in Antiques Centres, but quite often they are on the pricey side as the cost of renting the unit has to be factored in. Cheaper to look on Ebay or else, your local auction, as the latter is where such lovely things normally come from, at a lesser price.

I'm glad you had such a lovely day out anyway, and your lunch sounded scrummy.
