The UFO Journal - Project One Cream Roll necked lightweight jumper Part One

Image
Well I have started on a UFO which is basically a jumper for me.  It is being worked in some wool that my Mum bought which is very like an artificial mohair.  I also found the pattern in my stash.  So win-win situation as far as costs are concerned and I am using what I have available to me and clearing some space long-term i.e. reducing the amount of project bags.  In fairness I had not even worked a quarter of the rib on this before side-lining it. I found it in the bedroom the other day and so decided to get on with working this in the background.  Sometimes using large tranches of time and at others little bits here and there.  However am pleased with how it is progressing.  It is not perfect, and hopefully will make a lightweight jumper for me to wear with jeans or a skirt. Pattern Taken from a magazine many years ago.  I believe it was the Women's Weekly.  I have tended to chop out recipes for a folder or two and crafting patterns...

What a Wonderful Day

It has been warm and sunny and I feel much better than I did. Needless to say I am not rushing back into things although I have done a bit.  I have managed to get no end of washing done, still have more to do, but the more urgent of the items are out of the way with.  I have also managed to get them pegged out on the line, in the sunshine and there is a slight breeze.  They smell wonderful when dried and brought in.  So a real result on the washing front. It has been so lovely outside that my fingers are itching to get started on some weeding in the herb border. My fingers need to ground themselves into the Earth.  The greatest form of healing.  However, I am still in the kitchen and we are having a cooked tea this evening, Toad in the Hole with Onion gravy and some veggies.  Am doing an individual Toad today.  Just something simple and not over-complicated.  Therefore if and when I get out it will only be for a short time, and I will w...

A Quiet Day

Despite not getting where I wanted to yesterday I still managed to accomplish quite a lot of things even if on the over-view it does not really look like it. Today however I have had to down tools.  We had curry for tea last night and despite it being the same curry we have had over a period of time, the spicing on it seemed hotter last night.  As a result I did not enjoy my meal so much even though I was so looking forward to it.  So much so it upset my digestive system, and when I did get to bed I thought I was going to be poorly.  Fortunately in the end I was able to get comfortable and so avoided this.  I also slept very heavily and was warm and comfortable (It was cold last night so the hot water bottles went in) and this morning feel as though I have been through the ringer a bit I think as a result of sleeping so heavily.  I also hurt all over. Had a big bowl of Granola for breakfast and some of my fermented blackberries and syrup together with...

Now the Pantry is Tidied -The Kitchen Day One

...and I can find things, and know when I have run out of something.  I have now absorbed the Pantry back into my routine for cleaning.  It is so much easier to clean now and I also tidy as I go along in there and keep on top of things.  Sometimes doing a good bottom out of a specific area can pay dividends. However, I still do not have everything in the Pantry! Probably will not have for some time as I need to source some more jars.  However, I will have by the time I am finished.  I keep using bits, and adding bits as I go as well, which I think is also helping. I am finding I am going in and out of the Pantry for things, to both add in and re-stock or to take out as a normal part of my everyday cooking routine.  I prefer a Pantry which is an integral part of the kitchen i.e. in the kitchen or in a room off the kitchen.  So much easier. One of the reasons that I chose white paint for the Pantry is that it makes a good clean looking backdrop to ...

Change of Plans

Back into the bedrooms today again rather than the kitchen.  Need to get a fair bit tidier before the kitchen G does not cope well with change especially when it involves  having the house upside down.  He has been told he will have to live with it until I can get this particular room sorted out.  Far worse than the Craft Room/Study/Computer room. So carrying on from where I left off. There have been some other things going on/happening in the background as well, but more on that soon. I always have other things going on as well as focusing on the project in hand.  It is just that some things have to be done on top of and perhaps before continuing on as a matter of priority.  Trying to keep plates spinning on different levels can sometimes be a little fraught.  However I am determined that we are going to get somewhere room by room.  I have had to go into the back bedroom as this is the main storage area, and I have other things throughout t...

Slowing up a Bit

Yesterday was reasonably successful in getting items sorted, however, naturally and by its very nature some of the work that I am doing in the back bedroom is tedious and involves paperwork and filing. I hate filing it does my back in. I am however very slowly getting everything sorted and easily accessible. This in itself is a success even though it is by far from being completed. This in itself has slowed up some of the progress of Friday.  I did manage to sort out two bags worth of paperwork that was just lurking yesterday (Saturday).  I do have a lot more to go at though.  All part and parcel of the bigger picture though.  All being sorted as I am going along. Therefore even if things do get stacked up in piles again, those piles are sorted and are further on than they were and the rubbish and mess has gone. I have also gone through all the bills, contacts, that sort of thing and made a central list of account numbers, references, contact address, emails etc....

Back to the sorting out

After an early call because Missy was a little under the weather 6:30am, I then got up made a cup of tea for Missy and myself.  Got her sorted and comfortable again which involved having her on my lap in my arms until she started to nod off I then got dressed and went down to cook breakfast. Only simple stuff Bacon and Mushroom sarnie for himself and a fried egg sarnie for me, washed down but further tea but more than enough. Weather was lovely first thing, with bright sunshine, but temperature dropped a little, wind has got up and it is "greyer" with the odd outburst of sunlight.  Will see how the rest of the day pans out, I think we are on the edges of the storm. Well after the early start, Missy, Mischief and G were out for the count by 11:00am.  Me, have not succumbed, but have got on with what I need to do today. Today it is back into the bedroom to carry on the sorting out.  Did better than I anticipated last night and made a big dent but still a long way to go...

Sorting out some of the Craft Stuff

Image
Notably UFOs. Terribly relieved that the Craft Room/Computer Room/Study is now bottomed out.  Now I can turn to sorting out all the projects do have on the go and start getting some of them done.  First off though the tidy up in the back room.   Various Kits and Charts Thus far on my l ittle excursion into the back bedroom I have located several kits/charts which I have decanted into a cardboard box for the time being.  There are quite a few projects in here that I want to work.  Original packaging fell to pieces on several of them, and so I decanted the contents into some poly bags for keeping everything together until they are worked.  Many of the kits and charts I have had for quite a few years. I have a Lavender and Lace chart for the Celtic Spring Lady.  I also have the Winter one and several other charts but looking to add more of these to the collection.  Will see what happens.  I particularly like this range. There is also a beau...

Craft Room/Computer Room/ Study

Image
All done and dusted.  Now I can move in at my leisure which I am really looking forward to doing and to playing. This room is now officially done out! It is not only the sewing machines that I want to play with as I have a whole host of UFOs to tackle as well as unravelling wool.  All different methods of crafting all need finishing off. There are also a myriad of different new kits and projects on top of that.  I now feel that I can work comfortably at any one thing at a time of an evening now going forward. In reality I cannot afford to buy in new stuff, but give me fabric and I can make something that will stand us in good stead for the foreseeable future.  I remember when I was at home as a teenager Mum had me sewing up pillowcases from torn sheets.  That is how I learned how to use a sewing machine.  It was a hand model and I do wish I had kept it now.  There we are though as I had a couple of good machines and also a vintage Singer I chose...

Progressing Nicely

It has been a cold and damp day here I think; it is certainly a lot chillier this evening. Work has been and is progressing nicely in the Craft Room/Study Computer Room.  Taking a lot longer than envisaged but it is getting a proper clear out so much so that only the items needed for getting stuck into my crafting are on the desk.  I have decanted most of the other items including two large piles of books in the back bedroom.  It is a case of playing shuffle board at the moment as there are still a few things that are needed in this room but which I cannot get to at present.  All of this is intended to make my life easier at the end of the day. I will therefore get to the kitchen once things are a bit clearer upstairs. Next off I will have to do a tidy up in the back bedroom as things have just been left in there at the moment and things really do need a tidy up.  I suspect that is what I will be doing tomorrow in an effort to get things clutter free before I fi...

You know when you think something is a good idea

Image
...... you started something and then many hours later you wished you had not started.  That is the state of play with me and my craft desk today!  It looks as though will be overlapping into tomorrow at this rate. This will be the case and I have only cleared the top so far.  This is real life here at the moment, but at least am starting to get to things. I have done quite a bit of sorting out of stuff that had been left on top of the desk.  It will not be going back into the craft room.  Have decided as there is not much space in any event and I am trying to organise it so that I can go in and play at my desk when the muse takes me.  Both machines have been cleaned and I have plans for playing with both in due course, but first of all the organisation bit needs to be thoroughly sorted.  My Big Shot paper cutter has also been cleaned down and is now ready for me to get to as well. Another reason for clearing my desk down is that I also would lik...

Bitting and Bobbing

Sorry real life has been in the way a bit.  In any event, after my few down days - I have decided to try and re-set myself and get myself into a better routine and try and sort myself out a bit.    I am doing this for me and my wellbeing at the end of the day.   It is Spring, the lighter nights, and lighter mornings I have yearned for are now here and I want to take advantage where I can.  My daily schedule is a mess I am missing a chunk of the day but am seeing more of the night.  Not the way it should be.  I need to get up earlier of a morning instead of getting engrossed in TV late at night which leads to later mornings.  When the mornings are lighter this is when I feel inspired to get on with stuff but my weak point on one of my medical conditions is the morning as this is when I am most prone to any kind of seizure. It is about three years since the last one and I do not want anymore if I can help it.  Blood sugar levels are lowest...
