New Books

Yesterday I came home with a treat two books that I have had my eye on for sometime.  The first The Grow Your Own Drugs book - I have been hanging my nose over this for quite a period of time and it has paid off.  I only paid £2 and the latest cookery book from The Hairy Bikers Family Cookbook everywhere I have seen it in town was £10, but I managed to obtain it from the Bookman who calls at work for £5.  So was well chuffed and that is two more off my ever ending list. The Bookman who calls sells for The Book People

The Edible Garden Book/Grow Your Own Drugs Book

I really enjoyed this series with Alys Fowler and have been eyeing up the book but at about £15 I don't look as though am going to get this very soon. However whilst browsing, the Book People have this on Offer at the moment at £7.99. The also have the Grow Your Own Drugs book on offer for £4.99. Both of these are available at TheBookPeople.co.uk

Books

For my birthday I received some money which I have put towards a book I have been hanging my nose over for a little while. Its the Bob Flowerdew Grow Your Own Eat Your Own ISBN No 978-1-85626-935-3 and it looks like its packed with useful information and some different preserving recipes So am well chuffed. Funny though how it is you don't see many books that take your interest and then they come like buses one after the other. Its like that at the moment. I have been nosing amongst the preserving books in W H Smith and there are three in there are the moment that I would quite like. Then there is the Grow your own drugs book and then the Edible Garden one. Now that looks really interesting a really different take on preserving and storing food for the winter. Will have to start saving even if it is only £1 a week at least then I will appreciate the effort in saving up for the said item, not that I don't appreciate my books they are all very special to me.

I am very pleased with the two books that I acquired from the Charity Shop on Saturday. The first book Edible Presents to Make by Norma Miller ISBN 0-600-56470-3 covers quite a lot of occasions including Christmas, Special Days, Special Occasions, Presents for Keeps, Surprise Presents, Bazaars and Fetes and Packaging. Recipes cover Orange Brandy Butter, Tropical Relish, Blackberry Vinegar, Sloe or Raspberry Gin, Candied Pumpkin, Whisky Mincemeat, Spiced Oranges, Orange Turkish Delight,Easter egg monsters, Pumpkin Pie, Jigsaw Fudge, Tipsy Marmalade, Garlic Cheese, Pineapple Butter, Sugar Mice and Toffee Apples and is quite a nice little book. Think this one will be very useful in the coming months. I am very fond of Pamela Westland Craft and Cookery books and I have quite a few. Saturday I gained another one of hers called Taste of the Country, making the best of home produce. It was printed in 1974 SBN No 241 02466 8. It has some lovely seasonal recipes in as well as a good selectio...
