Something for the Tins - Apple Scone Round
This is a favourite here and it is either made as individual scones or as I tend to do make a big scone cake, slice and simply serve it with butter. It is also good to nibble on when you want a snack. It is something that I have made for many years. You will need: 8oz plain flour 1/2 teaspoon of salt 2 teaspoons of baking powder 2oz margarine 2oz caster sugar 1 medium sized cooking apple which has been peeled, cored and grated 4 tablespoons of milk For glazing: A little milk 1 tablespoon of Demerara Sugar Cooking time approximately 20 to 25 minutes Oven temperature: 200 degrees C, 400 degrees F, or Gas Mark 6 To Make: Pass through a sieve into a bowl the flour, salt and the baking powder. Then rub in the margarine until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Add the sugar and then the grated apple and enough milk to give a soft dough. Be careful as you do not want a "sticky dough".
