Ice cream Floats

One of the delights of going to College in a different town is getting to know the area, but as a teenager its a big thing. A transitional thing.  When I left school in Deeping St James (the secondary modern as it was then and then going on to be Deeping Comprehensive and I think it is known by the Deepings School today) I went to Stamford College. I was there for two years and it was during that time I found the Wimpy Bar just off Red Lion Square.  For no more reason than I was introduced to an Ice Float made with Ice cream served in long glasses like knickerbocker glory glasses  with long spoons and to die for. Its funny what stays in your mind.

All the ice cream float is really is a scoop of ice cream in the bottom of a tall glass and then topped up with fizzy lemonade of your choice.  You have to be careful when adding the lemonade as it in the well known words of another iconic product of the day "Its frothy man", however on hot days like the past few days and I believe it will be today, what a lovely cooling drink to give the kids or come home to after a long day at work.  The bonus is you can use flavoured pop with vanilla ice cream and create your own concoctions.  I am planning on one for when I get home this evening.  I have an idea in mind of plain lemonade and vanilla ice cream and a good glug/drizzle of the home made elderflower cordial.  That should be a good way of christening the cordial.  What are you going to "drink" when you get home from work or during the day whilst you are home during this hot weather as it is important to keep lubricated.

Catch you later.
