Long journey home
We left out from the camp site at 10:00am. It was sad to say goodbye as I have really enjoyed this part of the country and all the wildlife. We have plans to come back all being well next year. We have had pheasants Cock birds and females, grouse and Heron, bats and Owls as well as the trout in the Mill Race and the river and lots of lovely different birds.
This time we headed towards Exeter to hit the main roads as we could not face being sent up tiny narrow hardly negotiable roads in the Quantocks. Doing this saved a lot of stress for the best part of the journey. However, we did get sent down narrow roads although bigger outside of Leicester. We came back a completely different way to the way we went in many instances bypassing those towns we went down on.
Our Sat Nav is built into the car and you cannot adjust it for towing a caravan and it has very few adjustments all round. We have been advised today by fellow caravanners that we should purchase a separate system as you can programme it to take into account the fact that you are towing a caravan. I think this is something may well do in the future. Our original route from when we used to go down to Cornwall with a caravan used to take us at most six hours.
Going across the Quantocks down those teeny tiny roads had because of the humps bump turnbacks etc. wrecked the lowering wheel tyre and we got back to the camp site to get a new replacement just before they closed and the staff disappeared. When we got to our allotted parking berth someone had parked another caravan in there taking up two parking bays so we had to park in the only available gap. We got that sorted out this morning though when we went to collect some of the items to unload and bring home. We collected my two pushkins, who have been really good girls and they are now downstairs gobbling up their supper. They seem content so shall use the Cattery again if we go for any more jaunts. After we collected the cats we came back to the van to do more work and ended up having breakfast there as we were going to be there for sometime. I am therefore slightly shattered to say the least.
We lost reliable internet connection after we moved the van the signal was a little bit hit and miss so shall upload the post on the Chalice Well gardens in Glastonbury either tomorrow or Friday. I typed the post four times and lost it three. I also had the photos to download which also took quite a bit of time.
So we are back from our most recent jaunt and now have to really get stuck in with the house before hopefully being able to go off again.
Now just got to start to empty the second car load of stuff into the house.
Take care everyone hope you are all well.

If you have Office on your computer, you could type up the posts in there and then you can save as you go along and not risk losing them. Sometimes I have typed a long post, then my sleeve touches a "hot key" (don't know which ones they are though!) and I lose the lot.
ReplyDeleteWe are of course VERY used to driving along narrow lanes here, but that said, we aren't towing a caravan. When we had the horses though, I did tow the horse trailer along them a few times. Fortunately I didn't have to reverse up. I always have a big road Atlas in the car, and plan our routes with that, noting down on paper the main towns/roads we need to head for. That way you can avoid the Sat-Nav taking you through someone's farmyard!!!
