Today for the best part.....

.....I have spent cleaning and then cooking.  Sorting another section of the kitchen and then cooking tea.

Tonight's offering was Lamb steaks cooked in the oven and then served with Boiled potatoes, (which we crush down on our plates and mix it with the gravy), Broccoli, carrots, peas, cauliflower and lashings of gravy.

I also cooked pudding.  I retrieved one of my bottles of Wild Blackberry and Apple pudding mix from the Pantry shelf.  As I had canned this in a very light syrup, there was no need for any sugar to be added to the mix.  The only thing I did was strain some of the juice off before decanting into the pudding dish.

The beauty of this is it is relatively quick to make pudding this way on.  All I had to do was grease the pudding dish I was using which was 11 inches x 9 inches, undo the canned fruit and then put it into the pudding bowl.  It is then simply topped with sponge mix and cooked until golden brown.  It will be even quicker by the time I have finished as I am going to make some pudding mixes (for the dry ingredients in any event) for sponge puddings to be kept on the Pantry shelf.

The other thing of beauty for me, is that I know what went into the pudding mix and where the ingredients came from. Lovely seasonal food that tastes wonderful.  The jars that the pie filling was contained in are recyclable and capable of being used many more times with new seals.  The seal went into recycling, however the ring I hung up on my ring loop to keep all the rings together.  I have two different sized ones, a standard ring size and then the wide-mouthed ring side. This one is the wide-mouthed size.

Both the main meal was very tasty as was the pudding.  There is more than enough of the pudding to do a repeat tomorrow night.  It was accompanied with custard. However, I think it would be nice with some clotted cream at some point; well I do have a lot of pie/pudding filling on the shelf.

Think we might be having chicken stew tomorrow evening for tea, followed of course by pudding and maybe a little cream.

Catch you soon.
