Lighter Weather Lighter Food
This morning I had a lovely bowl of cereal. A bowl of gluten free granola topped with some milk and Raspberry Kefir and fresh Raspberries. Something so simple, delicious but one of my absolute favourite breakfasts. Only bettered by having fresh grown Raspberries to go and pluck minutes before eating your brekkie out of the garden.
As the weather is so lovely at the moment and I am still in a short sleeved tee shirt with no jumper I am craving lighter more seasonal food not necessarily a big salad but green leaves are part of it and tonight I have planned a simple pull together salad with mixed lettuce leaves, tomatoes, spring onions, cucumber, onion and coleslaw. I am also itching to get growing and having plants all over the place.
G went to the Butchers this morning and bought an individual Quiche and a Goats Cheese and Beetroot Quiche as well as a Pork pie and some sausages.
I then walked to Waitrose which is about a 25 minute walk away from where we live and I went and had a slow look around. I like this kind of shopping when I am not rushed as it means I can have a good look as to what is on the shelves and also whether there are any offers on. I managed to get three more chive plants, and two Parsley plants today also for the garden. I intend to go back hopefully tomorrow and get some Rosemary plants and anything else which I think I can grow on in the greenhouses. I did also buy in some Crab and Prawn Ravioli, Goats Cheese and Onion Ravioli, Red Wine and Beef Ravioli and Squash and Pine Nut Ravioli. I tend to cook two different types of pasta per meal and usually serve with some tomato sauce but as I have the Basil to make into fresh Pesto and then freezing that not used, we will have some of that as well. I also have a Lasagna to make. Came away with several little bits and bobs and as I say hopefully will be going back tomorrow and then getting G to come and pick me up. Today I walked all the way back with about four heavy bags of shopping. I bought a little more than I thought I had.
As I have said for tea, we have had a big plate of salad each. I used the two quiches G bought earlier and I therefore split them in half and we had half each and added some Pork pie to the equation together with coleslaw, cooked beetroot, cucumber, lettuce leaves, cherry tomatoes and some wholemeal Sourdough bread. Now stuffed. Do have some Strawberries and cream which was going to serve as well but do not think can manage them tonight.
I have plans to start in the garden tomorrow. That is after I have been for my next Covid jab which is scheduled for tomorrow morning. I will want to pace myself after that and some gentle work will not go amiss. Tomorrow I will go into one of the greenhouses and clear it out and get it ready for seed sowing which eventually will lead to planting in containers and baskets. There is a lot to do but am happy to do it.
Right I am off to put my feet up and have a look at a gardening magazine. Have a lovely evening everyone.
Catch you soon.

Those pastas sound lovely. I have given up pasta for Lent so I am very envious. I will treat myself to a really nice bowl after Easter.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it always the way - you always buy more than you think you will and then it's a struggle. I use a bundle buggy (granny trolley?) as I don't drive but sometimes I just like to pop in for a "few items".....
Ah you are being good. Not too long to wait for your bowl of pasta. I love Pasta too, but with G being diabetic I only include it in the menu every so often. Am looking to use the Courgette as the pasta in due course to see if he is happier with it. Afraid we tend to be chalk and cheese when it comes to food so it does tend to be we eat more of what he likes than what I really would prefer to eat. I am happy with bowls of soup, pasta served with seasonal veggies, that sort of thing and plenty more veggies than G eats as well. I love the phrase bundle buggy (not heard that before) like that. I have one too as I cannot carry stuff these days as it ends up upsetting my hernia. I always wanted to drive, but each time I got myself into a stable spot and would start the training again, I would end up having a seizure. I was off medication for over 10 years. Things got worse again in the last 10 years to what they were and I ended up back on the medication and the Doctors told me categorically - no driving. Been trying since I was 19. Although I did have 18 months on my moped - another story. I prefer "grazing style shopping" where I can pick up a few bits at a time especially if I spot things in a new to me shop as it were. However things can get out of hand. Take care Tricia xx
