Well it certainly rained
All through the night, so my headache was a sign after all. Still have a slight headache but not the pounding one I had.
It is now rather a blustery day. Hot and blustery and very dry.
We had stuff planned to do today, but it did not materialise due to one reason or another, which has rather thrown G a bit. So very much a day at home pottering about doing things. Making sure he chills, and is kept calm. Fortunately what had been planned can easily be deferred to another day. Things do not always go as planned, but as long as you get through at the end of the day that is all that matters.
G has started gloss painting the skirting boards and trims and everything is starting to come together and looks clean, fresh and lovely. This is just the first coat. The second in a day or so (allowing time to properly dry), it will be finished and should look really good.
Have been looking for flooring, have found some that I like, now we need to save up. Another item. Flooring will not be dealt with in any event until the main part of the bathroom has been sorted and decorated as well. I do not want new flooring to get damaged or paint on whilst work still needs doing. The flooring for me will be very much the finishing touch for both the Little Room and the Bathroom. The current flooring needs replacing in any event as it has been down for about 20 years (a heavy duty laminate), past its best. However it has lasted well. It will be replaced with a laminate again. We have the same to do for the kitchen and the dining room, but one room at a time, after each one has been decorated. Trying to use what we have to hand with odd new items, but the flooring really is needed. At the end of the day it should tidy things up a lot. As I say one room, or partial bit of a room at a time building things up gradually and getting them out of the way with certainly seems to be paying dividends at the moment. Once the Little Room and the Bathroom are complete I can then get out my finishing bits and bobs for them. I have shell mirrors and ornaments, including "Ships in Bottles" a Sea Themed "Treasure Chest" to store toiletries in like soaps, bath bombs, Bath salts that sort of thing. It does need a coat of varnish over it to protect it though before it goes into regular use. It was a rare find.
We did venture out later on to walk her Ladyship and give her a bit of a stretch and some exercise. Have started foraging a bit in readiness for the winter months. Intend to go back during the week weather permitting to have a good trawl and see what I can locate.
Am back into trying to get the kitchen sorted. Still a lot to do. Have cooked a Slipper Gammon again today, which we are having for our tea. Cooking guidelines indicate that you should allow 20 minutes per one pound in weight and this piece that cost us £10 weighs 4-1/2lbs so that is 90 minutes. The Gammon was soaked for about four hours prior to cooking in cold water, with about three changes. Stock does not taste salty. The stock is going to be processed and popped up on the Pantry shelf. Will be good for soups, stews, cooking beans that sort of thing. I will have that to process sometime tomorrow. Every little helps as the saying goes. We will then have ham for sandwiches and meals during the week. Might make a flan sometime during the week.
I am off to potter again.
Hope everyone has a lovely evening.
Catch you soon.
