A Little Trip -Pantry and Food Orientated and other bits and bobs

This time to the Food Warehouse just to get a few bits and bobs for the fridge.  As do not have a freezer we just buy a few bits and bobs and use them up in a couple of days.

Today have gone for Harry Ramsden cod steaks, bought some Mushy peas and that is tea sorted for this evening.   Mushy peas work out at 50p per tin (Batchelors) as offer is four for £2 at the moment.  So have come away with four tins, three will be for the Pantry shelf.  It is something that we like and that we use.  Also bought a Cauliflower cheese with bacon and an ordinary Cauliflower cheese and Potato Dauphinoise.

Also bought a tin of Ye Olde Yorke Ham for £3. Handy to have on the shelf in case one has unexpected guests.  Bit like tinned Salmon and Tuna.  Very useful standbys and you can always use them in other things.

Also the Starbucks Caramel Coffees are on offer at three for £3 which works out at £1 a bottle.  As I am collecting the bottles for processing fruit sauces in this year, this will be another useful three bottles for the stash.  Think I have about 9 or 10 now.  Still require more though as there is the Wild Larder to consider as well.  Also ideal for re-bottling fresh orange juice so that none gets wasted, especially as it has gone up in price quite a bit.  Then it will come in useful for another day.

I am determined that my Pantry stocks are going to be increased through the coming months a little bit at a time as I want to ensure that we have plenty for the Winter yet to come.  Better to have than not to have.

Now back into front bedroom wading through loads of stuff and have bin liner in hand and getting rid of the rubbish and sorting out stuff that needs to be elsewhere.  Going to be a slow old job, but will be worth it in the end.

G is back in the Pantry. Think he has gone to gloss the wooden shelves.  The white ones at the back are melamine whereas the ones we added in are wood.  Might take a little longer to dry, but the shelves are coming up well.

I am therefore at the moment babysitting one anxious Jack Russell and a cat who does not like closed doors (she is an indoor cat only).  OH fixed the latch on the door the other day as it would not stay closed and as Mischief is used to barging her way through.  She cannot do it now so the door remains closed!  What spoilsports we are!  Very perturbing when she is trying to get out at night as it sounds like someone is trying to break in! Peace will reign as soon as G is back.  Then I can get on again.

Whilst I have been in the bedroom (currently still waiting to go back in as still on babysitting duties) have sorted some stuff into piles.  When I cannot work later because of the neighbours I will go through and start to sort some of them.  I have  Crochet part-work to sort into its binders, and a folder of tips and snippets that I have created over the years which I am going to put on the computer and reduce some of the folders and paperwork element of my storage eventually.  More work but at least it is thinning things out a little bit.  Might start putting them in the binders tonight.

Just been to check on G he has half the shelves covered in gloss and they are looking good.  Very pleased with how a shabby cupboard is being "tarted" up.  It is not perfect but it is 100% better than what it was and it should be very workable by the time we have finished.  Seems a lot of effort really just for a cupboard, but the Pantry is where all the food is kept and I so need to be able to locate stuff easily.  Making the most of what I have at the end of the day.

Have also found some curtains that can be renovated/added to for the kitchen.  I also want to make a pelmet and if possible re-vamp an old roller blind to tailor it in a bit.  I have some new navy fleece to make a new curtain for the back door.  There is currently a green fleece at the door.  I will modify that as well so that have an inner curtain to stop any draughts.

Babysitting duties now completed glossing the shelves.  Fingers crossed they are dried by tomorrow so that I can start to get the Pantry back into some order.  At least  G back to take over and I can get on a bit more.

Tea tonight is going to be the Harry Ramsden's battered Cod, mushy peas and Dauphinoise potatoes.  Looking forward to it.  Cheat food, but not something we do very often and with so much going on at the moment we still need to eat.

Hope you all have a lovely evening.

Catch you soon.

    1. It has gone down very nicely. Just what the Doctor ordered. Am hoping depending on paint being dry to be able to start re-filling the Pantry tomorrow. As I say though it does depend on the paint being dry. If not tomorrow afternoon am hoping that by evening should be able to start. Still have a heck of a lot to do. I had never had Dauphinoise potatoes before. I loved them and I am a mushy pea fan anyway (especially with a sprinkle of vinegar on). Take care Tricia xx
