Operation Front Bedroom Continued Days Three and Four
In reality I think I will always be my own worst enemy, but that at the end of the day is what keeps me going. Rather than feeling overwhelmed I am trying to do something about it and keep myself busy. I know in reality though that sometimes I go overboard and overstretch myself which is when we get the hiccups. Will I ever learn! Hey ho, it is just the depth that varies. I do know my own limitations but hands up I do still get it wrong! I am only human at the end of the day.
Thursday Continued
Following on from tea yesterday (which was cheese on toast and I did not have to get it ready for a change), I continued on in the front bedroom and decided to dive into the bottom of the wardrobe. Most of my shoes and boots are in there, however I seem to have several pairs of shoes which are missing one shoe. Think they are in the bedroom somewhere, but at the moment they are not matched up. Some pairs have been popped under the bottom rack in the walk-in cupboard out of the way and my current boots/casual wear ones are now in the bottom of the wardrobe as well.
I also found some boots that would not fit after I had my Bunion operation and I also found two different sized shoe stretchers. The first ones were put in a couple of weeks or so ago and they have indeed stretched the boots that bit more, however I do need a bit more ease on them. Today I put the bigger ones in and I am hoping that they will do the trick otherwise it will be a trip to the Cobblers to see if they can stretch them for me a little bit further. They are brand new green leather pixie style boots with a fur ruff. There are another couple of pairs of ankle boots and both are very good quality leather that cost a pretty penny so fingers crossed this works. I also have a few pairs of shoes down in the caravan as well. I have three or four pairs of leather flatties in red, blue, lime green and lemon. The lemon ones were put under a set of the stretchers today as well. It will be good to find their partners and to be able to wear them again.
As I have said before as I am working I am tidying and sorting things out. In some cases popping things into bags like my hair clips - I have lots of these and several containers to store them in which I cannot access at the present moment - hence them being put in the bag altogether so an organised sort out will take place when I find the rest.
I also have to sort some of my jewellery back into its box as well.
My Mum and Dad one year received a big M & S Hamper which consisted of a massive basket. This is now in the small walk-in wardrobe to hold my hairdryer, curling tongs, straighteners, electric rollers etc. in order that I have easy access to them when needed. I have not used them recently but would like to get back in the swing of things and style my hair up a bit.
There is still a lot of sorting out to do as so much has been muddled up. Just have to be patient, take my time and work through it.
I also have every intention on starting to sew all the projects found the other day; all four of the proving cloths that I have cut out in red and green Gingham. There are eight cloths in all. They need hemming (will probably use the overlocker on these) and then stitching (which will fit in as I can) along with the Crowson fabric tablecloth/cover which is tacked ready to be stitched. Although only simple stitching, the eight proving cloths and the tablecloth/cover will be good to get out of the way as I will have need of them in the foreseeable future. I have other projects to do on top of this as well, but once these are sewn I can prep the rest.
Day Three Friday
For the bulk of Friday I have not been in the bedroom. I did venture in for the evening though. I have quite a lot of expensive curtains acquired over time and all in excellent condition. I have chosen to keep these curtains as you never know when they will be needed. I have added new curtains to this stash as well. I am now up to two double polythene containers largest size you can get. This evening the aim was to get all those curtains that were accessible into these boxes to keep them clean and safe. I still have more to add in but the mission was accomplished for this evening.
I have also managed to pack away some of my more recent DVDs until I can get into the front room. This will keep them clean, tidy and organised.
I found a load of Christmas decorations in the front bedroom. There are still more to go, but as I needed the polythene box to put the curtains in I had to turf all of these out. Fortunately I have a Christmas chest bought some while back and also a Christmas suitcase that I was able to pack some of these decorations in. These two containers will get put on top of the wardrobe so that they can be easily accessed. I have a lot of traditional wooden Christmas decorations in the German style as well. I also have golden stars, Sputnik decorations and a couple of Deer, as well as pull decorations all made from wood. There were several glass baubles of different sizes as well, and they have been wrapped in tissue to keep them safe, The more delicate decorations are in the Christmas chest.
This is the top of the arched chest which is one of the containers holding decorations.
This is the suitcase version:

The curtain boxes are stored in the back bedroom and I tend to put my carriers with UFO projects on top. As this area had got into a bit of a two and eight, I have also stripped this area out and tidied it up. No doubt it will be revisited as I locate items to pack them away. There are also several pretty Angels/Fairies as well. Some of them are really vintage. I revisit my childhood when it comes to Christmas decorations. Mum and Dad always treated Christmas as pretty special and all Mum's decorations were treated like "treasure" and stored in an old wooden tea chest. Decorating the tree was also treated as an occasion. Many happy memories here. I have a cardboard Biscuit Box which Mum got in one of the Christmas hampers bought through the Catalogue. She used the box to store baubles in as well which it is still doing some 60 years later!
Day Four Saturday
I started again by doing some work in the back bedroom, continuing to stack stuff away so that it is accessible and tidy. Namely the DVD's have now been stacked onto the curtain containers for the time being where they will not get knocked over. I would hasten to say that the Back bedroom is a storage room and is not used as a bedroom per se whereas the other rooms where we can are used.
In reality it is going to be pinging backwards and forwards between rooms to get stuff sorted with like stuff and for storage. As I have mentioned I am organising where I can as I go along. I am also dealing with some ancillary run of the mill household tasks as well, like boil washes and getting stuff on the line (all of which has been accomplished). However my focus is based on the front room. At some point I will have to do the ironing and then get that stuff squirrelled away however change of plan as I cannot get to one part of the front bedroom at the moment I am working on dealing with that first so that all clothes can be put away properly. This will make such a difference at the end of the day having everything accessible.
Today though has been slow going. By its very nature I am having to sort out bags of stuff that have been neglected for one reason or another. Some of that stuff is going to the Charity shop on Monday. It does slow things down a bit. I am not prepared just to shove it in a bag and forget about it I am actively selecting those items I want to progress with, so there is a lot of thought and selection going on as well as using my hands for sorting. As I am discovering items they are also being packed away. For instance I found a couple of tops this morning that have since been packed into the walk-in wardrobe. (Really does not deserve that name as in reality it is a small cupboard hardly big enough to swing a rat, but it is what it is and things are getting sorted and much more under control.
I also had a diversion in that because it has been better weather today, he decided to continue trying to get the Holly tree down. I was designated the string to pull whilst he took a wedge out of the tree. Consideration had to be given to the telephone line, as well which the tree had folded itself around. At one point I thought it was going to come down on me. However, fortunately that did not happen and the hedge caught it. G now has the job of stripping the trunk down and us then getting the smaller bits into bags in readiness to take down to the tip. So that is a job well done, although I feel a little sad as well. I like trees.
Simple tea for tonight, pork pie and salad. I am not up to eating much at the moment, although we will be having chicken tomorrow night for tea.
Right better get a wriggle on and get stuck in again.
Hope everyone has a lovely evening.
Catch you soon.

Reading this I feel overwhelmed. I know you will be pleased with yourself and the accomplishments, but it sure sounds like a lot. My day consisted of making bread!
ReplyDeleteSandra, I would rather have been making bread. This evening have made more progress although the bedroom looks like a bomb has hit it. Have found more Christmas decorations, embroidered, pieces and craft materials. Stacks of coat hangers. Got to find somewhere to store those. Got all the decorations into boxes now sitting on the top of the wardrobe. Working my way along one wall of the room. Been into the walk in wardrobe/cupboard and put more clothes in there. Now have hanging rack free with coats on and room for more clothes. Found some missing boots, still a load missing though. So although it has been a hard slog, it is coming together slowly although there is still no end of work to do. Am going to keep at it and if I fancy having a break from it I will, but this job is long overdue. The start of the mountain really. An opportunity to thin out those things no longer feel have a need for. I have already identified a few coats to go and no doubt there will be more. A work in progress which is going to take time. xx
DeleteCleaning and sorting and organizing are all necessary but can become overwhelming. Awesome of you for really getting into it..
ReplyDeleteHi Hena, yes it does, when it gets that bad I divert myself for a few hours elsewhere. Needs doing though and am not giving in. Tricia x
