A Christmas Purchase

I love wooden items of any sort.  However, for me Christmas has always been about putting the tree up, and bringing out treasure of many years in the form of ornaments; special treasures many of them old and thin with the glass like spun cobwebs but oh so fragile.  My Mum always treasured and valued items and at Christmas proper glass baubles were always on our tree and they were stored safely in boxes (one even an old tea chest).  They were always treated with respect and it was a big thing putting up the Christmas tree when I was a child and even as an adult. An occasion was always made of it and quality family time was always spent at this time.  It was always magical when the tree went up and the lights went on.  We had a roaring fire in those days and everywhere was always warm and snug.  Times I look back on with much love.

At the minute we do not have the tree up.  Not sure will get to it this year as many other things to attend to. However, I did decide to treat myself to a last minute Christmas decoration that will go with one I already have.  It is a German Pyramid - a Carousel usually on two to three tiers and normally with the Nativity figurines on. It is a candle powered windmill that in the dark lit up and working looks absolutely spectacular.  I had originally bought two a while back, but had managed to break one of them completely.  I have been looking for another one, but there is no way I could pay £60 upwards for such a decoration at the moment.  I was placing an Order on the A....... site and quite by chance the one I have just ordered came up at a much more sensible £25 and so I am waiting for that to be delivered.

It will bring the light back into the house and give a glow all of its own.  It should match in with the one I already have.  I had bought two originally to have as centrepieces on the Christmas table - they really do look spectacular when lit and in the dark.  Something that small children and young children in adults will see the magic of.  Even as adults we need to let the inner child to escape and to see the magic of simple things and the possibilities of what may or might be.  To dream is a wonderful thing if you allow yourself the time to do so.  You have to dream and reach for the stars to aspire to things you are maybe not quite sure of.  To dream liberates you from the physical body and gives you potential.  We make our own magic.

This year, I have concentrated on autumn decorations which I did not get to use in any event due in part to quite a bit of disruption to plans.  However I do have a good head start for next year.  Next year though I will concentrate on Christmas decorations with a view to making many myself - I have a couple of new kits that I have bought for tree decorations and I also have my Cross Stitch Patchwork quilt to complete. That really must be done by Christmas 2025. That may well be one of the projects I pick up over Christmas as quite a bit of it has been worked.  Now I have the light board and the new work magnifying lamp I am hoping to be able to do a lot more of an evening.  Need to get creating and let the creativity out.  It is screaming at me at the moment as it has been too long since I sat and played.

We will see what transpires.

Right am off to potter.

Have a lovely evening.

Catch you soon.
