Organising the Seed Boxes
After all that nice weather at the weekend I was getting a touch of Spring Fever, however that has quickly gone down hill a bit today as it has been a bitterly cold day here. As a result of which, I have stuck to the house and have not ventured out at all. We had an unexpected hail storm which made a right clatter as it was falling out of nowhere. It landed and collected quite a bit of hail in next door's gully on the roof. It came down so quickly and was over so quickly as well. If you double click on the images you should be able to expand them a little.
Well my Seed Boxes x 2 have arrived from Dunhelm. They are Rubber wood with a Bee design on them. Currently Ā£12 from Dunhelm. There are four wooden dividers in each box as well for Herbs, Veg and Flowers with a plain divider to mark up yourself for anything else. There is also a section at the back of the box for storing them when not in use. I am very pleased with these and now I have the job of filling up the boxes and getting everything tidied up and into its designated storage.
I have started on getting the seeds into the boxes and I hope to complete this before this post goes live.
I am sending for some new seeds in any event for items that I have been wanting to get hold of for a while. I also need to re-set my Herb Garden. I intend to nip into Waitrose in the next few days to see what herbs they have available at the moment in order to get some cuttings underway on the kitchen windowsill from plants like mint, rosemary. I also want to see if they have some Chive plants as I would like to re-stock my tubs in the garden and as I plan on sowing some carrots, I also want to inter-plant the carrots with a row of chives as well as they are supposed to ward off Carrot Root fly. All I can do is try and see what happens. I also intend to interplant Pot Marigold and Nasturtiums between the veggies as well. I am also going to root some ginger and if I can get hold of it some Lemon Grass and also set some sweet potatoes to form some slips. Never done this before but it has to be worth a go. Always thinking of my Belly me!
I am also at some point looking for some Viola, Pansy and Heartsease packs. You need a pretty element interspersed in the garden every so often as well. I will go looking in the next week or so as the flower heads can be preserved by pressing and also by crystallising. You can use the pressed flower heads on cookies to decorate them as well. Something I have not tried but something want to have a go at.
I have the four polystyrene containers to start some seeds off now, which will keep them warm in the poly houses. I am therefore getting geared up to start my growing season. I just need some decent weather to start stripping the garden out. and get it tidied up and get the stuff to the tip. Even if I only get out in the garden for a couple of hours a day it will be well worth the doing. I already have lots of containers and am thinking of ordering in a load of compost. I would like to get some Strawberry Tubs up and running this year and maybe some salad potatoes in to start with. Will see what happens. All plans in the head at the moment, hopefully to be brought into life soon. Even though it is colder weather have to start thinking ahead for growing and planting crops.
Right I am now going to put my feet up now that the seeds have found are all in their new home.
Have a lovely evening everyone.
Catch you soon.
