Work has started with a vengeance

On the house and the garden.

Friday Evening

Last night, I continued working for a couple of hours finishing at 9pm in the kitchen and making headway into tidying up a bit. Those couple of hours lightness for later into the evening are very much needed here and am grateful for them.  A long way to go yet but a determined start made yesterday and on the herb border as well.  I intend to spend another hour on the garden border again tomorrow working in tranches until I manage to get it cleared.

Saturday

Had another good night's sleep and was awake for 8am when started to get ready to go on our travels into the Fens to the fish man.  We started early as we had decided to go and get some fish from the fish man in Ramsey yesterday plus you get a better selection of fish if you are there earlier.  We took Missy with us and she was not at all happy about being taken out of her routine. Very much the grumpy old lady routine. We had anguished howls before she settled down.  She is currently fast asleep.  Old age, Rheumatism and a touch of dementia are playing their part me thinks.  However at least we got her out for a little while into the sunshine.  Might take her for a short stroll tomorrow as well. She has since being home been fast asleep.

Came away with 2 x Cromer Crabs, and 2 nets of Mussels for tea this evening and 2kg of Whelks which are going to be re-packaged and popped into the freezer so that someone can get his whelk fix for the next few weeks.  Have just managed to get them stuffed in.  Seven packs all told.  He had the equivalent of two packs to snack on!

On checking the contents of the freezer it would appear that I have Cranberries and Mixed fruits to liberate and turn into some preserves.  Jumbleberry Jam and Cranberry and Apple jelly are on the cards which will create some more space in the freezer before we go to the Butcher again.  They will be tackled in the next couple of days or so.

When we got back we had breakfast and a cuppa and then I managed to get the first of the back log of washing onto the line and in readiness for ironing.  Starting to tackle long outstanding tasks slowly and gradually but hopeful can get that at least sorted by the end of the week.  I am also hopeful to eventually by the end of the week to also have the Kitchen and the Pantry back under control.  There is an awful lot to do but I am determined to get as much done as I can.

I am not really focusing one area, just areas within that one area and doing what I can and am up to.

It has been lovely and warm here in Peterborough today 21 degrees C.  Showers are predicted early morning and it will be a cooler day tomorrow with rain hitting/forecast Tuesday onwards coming in from the South West.  I therefore decided that as I had found my knee pad that I would have another go and do a little more weeding on the herb border whilst the weather is good.  My thinking is that I can sow seeds in the greenhouse even when it is wet, so really making the most of the lighter hours and being hands on when the weather permits. Therefore a couple of hours weeding ensued.

Tea tonight is the Mussels done in a little cider and garlic and butter served with some crusty bread.  I have also added some chopped fresh Parsley.  Intend to serve with warmed buttered Baguette.  That should do very nicely.  As I still have a load of Melon left in the fridge we shall probably have another good wedge of that each as well to finish off with.  Lovely good tasty simple food.  I have bought G a couple of bottles of Rattler to finish off with.  I have some Crabbies Ginger Beer (not that I do not like Cider - just fancied the Ginger Beer).

My Tea is now ready and so I am off to go and eat it whilst it is warm.  The Mussels have been cleaned and de-bearded.  They are Welsh Mussels and they look really good quality.  Looking forward to these.

Have a lovely evening.

Catch you soon.

  1. You have had another busy week but it does sound as though you have made a lot of progress in the garden - it is a lot of work. The mussels sound lovely - I almost bought a pack of frozen mussels yesterday but decided to wait until I can get to the market and buy them fresh.

I've been a bit restricted this weekend as the subway is down at my end of the city for repairs all weekend - and I didn't fancy a long ride on a packed bus. So I have made good use of my time to do some housework, laundry & ironing first. Then I gave the pantry a bit of a clean and re-org and checked what needs to be used first. I have moved a few items into the kitchen in order to use them up this week.

I've been going through my apt. and have put aside a small armchair, a couple of dining chairs, a side table and a couple of carts that I want to let go. My office mate's daughter is furnishing her apt. so I've offered everything to her so hopefully these items will be gone by the end of this week.

I have batch cooked a few veg, made a dozen egg cups for breakfasts, made some energy bites and taken some items out of the freezer to cook tomorrow so meals are pretty much set for the week. I had a lovely big salad for supper along with some fish and I'm about to make a cup of tea and watch the end of the Masters Golf tournament. It looked as though McIlroy would win it but he's run into some difficulties in this final round so it's about a 4 man race at the moment so it will be an exciting finish. Have a lovely week.
