Well that didn't happen then
Happy Solstice Day to everyone. Midsummer Day at its hottest.
Now we will ever so slowly start to lose the light again ever so gradually.
I am absolutely exhausted from the heat. Did not sleep too well last night, could not get comfortable with my back. Choosing to sit and rest apart from going to the shop. The heat is and has been unbearable. We have just had a slight rain shower which hopefully will cool things down a little bit. Looks as though will be the kitchen tomorrow then.
I opened the greenhouses up earlier and it was boiling then.
Loads of washing has been put out on the line and subsequently dried and then been brought in. We were forecast rain showers for about 3 hours. Then there looks as though there is a period between 6:00pm and 10:00pm which is dry again so will put some more washing out in a bit. I have more clothes and bedding to get out as yet, plus a boil wash currently on the go. I am getting to the end of it though. Fingers crossed not too much more and that I can then get all the laundry ironed and put away. So not entirely a fail as I am wading through the outstanding washing pile and getting stuff dried. Otherwise though not much will be going on apart from me closing the garden off for the evening later on.
I will probably as planned start sorting things a bit in the back room. That did not happen either. It has been really really hot and I have a low tolerance level with heat and with cold.
I did pay a visit to the Charity Shop (CS) and have bought another Pyrex mixing bowl and also a Souffle dish. I have also bought three more glass storage jars with lids, and a teardrop shaped glass vase. Feels like a really good quality one due to its weight. I love vases and old items that can be recycled as vases wherein a previous life they may have been a Tureen. You can however make them into substantial flower vases by using tape to form a grid formation all over the top of the vessel. Then stick your flower stems in the holes. The beauty of this is that you can create a grid on any vase and the tape is easily replaced once it is past its best. I have bought such a Tureen/Soup Tureen today - no lid £2.50. It will go nicely with some M & S Flower planters in cream bought quite a few years ago and is of the size to put three or four plants in. I love flowers and vases they can really bring life to a room.
Hope things are not too hot for you wherever you are.
Catch you soon.

The heat has been a bit too much for me. I have gone old school and have been using a hand fan to keep myself comfortable. I am VERY glad that I don't have to wear a corset, multi-layered petticoats and long dress to go with it! I think I would have been one of those Victorian ladies who kept keeling over and having to be revived by smelling salts.
ReplyDeleteA tip to avoid ironing when the weather is so hot. Fold everything neatly and put it away and only iron it when you know you will need it the next day. I do NOT do anything like as much ironing these days, and use the "iron as required" method. It makes life much easier.
