New Electric Panel, How not to make Lemonade and Round 2 of the Stew

I would just like to make a small addendum to yesterday's post.  In the end it took me 8 hours to empty out the Little Cupboard under the stairs.  There was a lot more in there than I had realised.  I ended up not going to bed last night, despite being desperately tired and my back and hips deciding that it had enough of all the lifting and bending involved in clearing things.

Would just mention that there is a new Laminate floor going down.  The shelves are also going to be lined with vinyl and an edging strip added all the way around the shelving to stop jars jumping off the shelf and smashing.  I think I am going to need another tub of Plaster repair stuff. Will start with sanding down first tomorrow in any event and see how we get on.  I therefore allowed only one day before tackling the sanding down of the filler, but may have to leave it a couple of days as it is more extensive than I originally had thought.  In any event there is always something else I can be doing if I have to wait a bit longer in-between times. Then when it is ready and sanded down will give the first coat of paint and then the second.  I want to bring this cupboard up to scratch and get it presentable.

On the top shelf I did have some wine racks.  These are not going back up there and I think I am going to be putting my large Pressure Canner, Stock Pot and Jam machine and Soup Urn (for making dairy items) there out of the way, but ready for when I need them.

Equally I am going to be adding a curtain all the way around the bottom shelf mainly to hide all the meters etc. but still allow for air to circulate and possibly put some bottles on the cold floor behind the curtain.  Cannot do it all the way along, but there are sections where this would work.  I shall therefore be sending for some green cotton/poly-cotton to make this skirt myself.  Some other items will go in and I may keep a small box of jam jars and preserving jars in here in any event.  The bulk of those are going to be stored in the Stone shed.

This morning whilst I was cleaning the bathroom I popped a bowl of Lemons on the floor out of the way.  Our bathroom is off of our kitchen.  Before I say anything else, please be aware that you are dealing with the original Tumbletot here.  A habit I developed as a child which usually involved me sticking my two front teeth through my bottom lip every-time I fell over; I have been doing it for years.  In any event long story short I tripped and fell hitting my chin. As I tried to stop myself from being a splatter on the floor. I caught myself on the edge of the worktop which is sharp on the corner. I did a lot falling yesterday as I was not too clever on my feet.  In any event there was a splatter but not from me just a bruised jaw! I managed to fall on the bowl of Lemons and demolished them breaking the bowl they were in which fortunately was a poly mixing bowl. Everything smelt wonderful but cleaning it up was another matter. Most of the Lemon was crushed! This all happened before the Electrician arrived.

I also caught up by phone with my cousin who is just as daft as he has always been.  We are made of the same stuff - double trouble!

Never having been in a house where the Electric Panel was to be replaced we were not too sure of what was involved.  However the Electrician Josh who had his Trainee with him has done a wonderful job a cleaned up beautifully after himself.  Not used to that but has really done a neat and tidy job.  Plus he has given me his contact number just in case there are any issues with the new system which he finds it easier for house occupants to come direct to him rather than through the Letting Company.

As I was absolutely shattered by the time he went which was about 11:45am I got myself something to eat and a cup of tea and then saw to the animals who were as good as gold whilst strangers were in the house.  Brekkie warmed me up a bit and then I went to bed and was out for a good solid 4-1/2 hours.  Felt a lot better and woke up just before G got in.  It went cold here this evening and so I decided we would have round 2 of the Stew from the other day.  So glad I did as it has warmed us both up.  There is still enough for a third round.  Will see if he wants that tomorrow and if not then it will go into the freezer.

I hope everyone has had a lovely evening.  Me well am going to have an early night and catch up on some sleep.  Now the hard work starts with the decorating and then slowly getting everything back into some order.  I must need my head testing!

Catch you soon.

  1. Your plans for the cupboard sound really great. I like the idea of the curtain at the bottom. That should finish it off nicely. I hope we get to see the big reveal pictures once it is done.

    1. Hi Tracym thank you. Been looking for some plain green cotton to purchase. Now need to do some measuring and work out how much fabric is needed. I will post photos of the finished cupboard once it is done. Take care Tricia xx

  2. I do worry when you work through the night - especially when you really need that night's sleep because your body is telling you so. Perhaps allow more time to sort things out before a job is being done? Those falls are telling you something . . .

    1. Hi BB, thank you for caring so much. I am trying not to do this, it is just sometimes in reality I have to do this. It is however less and less than it used to be. My feet are not good. I had a bunion joint replaced a few years ago and they were supposed to do my other foot. Because I did not heal properly, due to the medication I am on, they have declined to do that foot. That is the foot I tend to go over on. Also in fairness I had some soft soled slippers on. I really need hard soled ones going forward even though the ones have been wearing keep my feet warm. I am trying my best not to "self-abuse" with pulling the all nighter's moving forward. I know it does not do me any good. Today though Thursday I have had a day where I have done absolutely nothing. Cannot remember the last time I had that luxury. Thank you for caring so much dear friend. You take care too Hugs Tricia xxx
