And a Late One

Sorry I managed to schedule a couple of posts out of sequence.  This is the post that should have gone live this morning, not the one about books.  Apologies for the confusion.

Saturday evening

After things had cooled down a bit last night I sat out in the Old Herb Garden and watched the Crescent Moon in all her glory in the night sky.  It was lovely to be in the cooler air (to the day in any event) and just simply be.  It is something I need to do more of and hopefully when the garden is done a bit more, something that I will be able to do more often.  Even in the City there are quiet moments.  Whether I will achieve it this year or not is that I would quite like to prepare a small Arbour with a bench and trellis work so that I can simply sit.  Would quite like a Wisteria to run up it as well.  Will see how things pan out as the house and going to the caravan are the main focus this year and in reality the garden usually gets left as a result of going to the caravan.

Sunday

G was up at 6:00am this morning and then went fishing today; meanwhile I overslept. Oh well cannot win everyday  We have had the fan on and I have been relatively comfortable in this exceedingly hot weather.  Even Mischief seems content.  The window has been open  letting in fresh air as well.  As I have mentioned before this house is too cold in the Winter but is a blessing in the Summer as the rooms remain relatively cool.  We get a very good air flow from one side of the house to the other with the windows open.  For someone who does not do tolerate the heat well it makes life more comfortable.  However I do think that we need some screens for the First floor windows as they are the large swing out ones from the top with a fixed panel at the bottom.  More to stop the night bugs than anything else but also to stop a cat from climbing up and getting out of the window.  I do not want Cats on the roof again.  Have had that before whilst whittling that indeed the Cat would fall off the roof and trying to tempt her down with a tin of Tuna!  I need to look into that therefore.

We both like the window open at night just not the Mozzies or bugs that usually come with it. I have a fly screen for the back door that needs to go up so that I can have the back door open whilst I am working.

Today's Meal and some makes

We are having a Ham salad for tea tonight, followed by a slice of fresh cream cake each.  Just a light meal nothing much we have eaten reasonably well for the past few days.

Food Bits and Bobs to make during the week

I intend to get some sausage meat out of the freezer during the week to make some sausage rolls as it has been a while since we have had any.  I am also going to make a few homemade Scotch Eggs for G.  The Sausage rolls and the Scotch Eggs may be made  the day after if I run out of time.  So that should keep things moving on the food front for a day or so.

I also wish to make a fresh batch of yogurt (now the fridge is sorted out) and I can get it in.  Yogurt is integral to my Dips, the Breakfast pot, breakfast generally and in puddings.  So although I start out making a lot, it soon goes.  Also very good for coating chicken, in cakes etc.

I also have plans to make some Chive and Garlic Dip, a tasty Cheese and Onion Dip to make. I may make a Garlic, Parsley version later in the week.  All good for dunking with raw veggies but also good in baked potatoes or on top of a salad.  Homemade Coleslaw also needs to be made.  I also have a Pineapple and Ginger fruit juice to make. A mixed fruit milk shake and a couple of breakfast pots.

I also want to make some homemade Lemonade.  I have the Lemons for this and it is very refreshing with ice in the hot weather.

I also bought some Lemonade and vanilla ice cream to make some ice cream floats, basically a little bit more than a 3/4 tumbler full of Lemonade with a scoop of ice cream.  It froths all up and will try to escape the glass, yet again very refreshing in the hot weather.  You can use any type of flavoured lemonade for this.

Plans for meals later in the week on the food front:

I do have plans later in the week to cook the Hawaiian Chicken with Peaches served with Rice that I make every so often. I cook this in the Slow Cooker if I want to get on with other things.

I also plan to make a Goat's cheese salad i.e. Crostini garlic bread cut at the angle, lightly toasted and then half a Crottin of Goat's cheese on top and melted under the grill.  Served on a bed of salad leaves and topped off with a fresh mixed herb oil dressing which I also need to make.

Alternatively as I have two Crottin of Goat cheese I may make some open sandwiches another day using a seeded bread which is then covered with little chunks of the Goat cheese, honey and toasted walnuts and simply served as an open sandwich.  Fresh Figs are good with this too.  G does not do the Goat Cheese so this is more for me than anything else. Oh and I also need to make some French dressing to keep in the fridge for G to grab.

It is far too hot to go out.  I will potter out in the garden later tonight when things have cooled down a bit and if I can sit for a bit like I did last night that would be lovely.

Watering the Old Herb Garden is now a nightly ritual.  I have lots of grapes forming on the vine and I am hopeful that we can bring them on so that I get an even better harvest than last year.

Hope everyone is keeping well.

Catch you soon.
