Cheese

We are avid Cheese lovers here and we have ordered online for the bulk of our cheese order this year. I was going to pop up a post before now about this but for the best part events have overtaken me so I will probably do a post about this for next year when at least I will be able to speak from experience about the companies used.

For this year we have ordered a full Colston Bassett Stilton which will be shared with family.  We have also ordered some Gorgonzola, Bishop Bigod Brie and some vintage Traditional Somerset Cheddar. They are due to arrive over the weekend.

Last night when I was in Waitrose I spotted some Raclette which is quite expensive to buy out of the preprepared Deli counter.  So I texted OH to see if he wanted any and he said yes. It is £18 per kilo and I think is a better way to buy it.  OH loves Raclette and during the sort out in the kitchen I have located my Raclette Grill which I am pleased about. I think he may be double-happy about this. This will obviously last us quite sometime

They also had an Austrian cheese in stock which is covered in mountain herbs and flowers.  I had seen it on the website we used and had not expected to see any in dear old Waitrose.  I was tempted to get a small piece to try it but that costs £28 per kilo.

A couple of cheeses which I have not seen for years and which I cannot remember the names of is one which is coated in grape seeds.  I really liked that and the other one whose name I cannot remember came in a small white cardboard tube.  The cheese was rolled into a log coated in chopped almonds and I think had orange juice and Grand Marnier in it.  I would love to be able to find both of those cheeses again. Especially the Grand Marnier one. That one brings back many happy memories. I have looked on the internet but at the time of posting cannot locate anything.  Will update if that changes.

I am hoping to get some goats cheese made before Christmas as well however have not found the Goat milk from my regular sources.  If I do not get any made for Christmas will certainly get some made for the New Year.

We have already received confirmation that the cheese is being packed.  We also fully intend that if any cheese is wrapped in cling film or the like that it will be stripped off and replaced with greaseproof. It needs to breathe and will be going into one of the drawers in my new fridge.

I also have some cheese kits to play with as well as a couple of Lekue cheesemaking kits. I am also looking forward to playing over the holiday and getting into a routine with making soft cheese for ourselves from Goats milk and milk. I have for many years made my own plain yogurt which you can use in all sorts of ways.

Its all about the playing for me at the end of the day.

Catch you soon.

    1. Hi BB, we have used a couple of mail order ones. Ludlow is a place I have wanted to visit for a long time as it has quite a reputation on the food front. The service we have used this year predominantly is in Bath. We normally have a Stinking Bishop from Charles Martell as well but OH did not fancy it this time round. We were particularly impressed with the Cheese shop in Louth but they do not do mail order. It is collection only and it is a good couple of hours away so OH chose to use the company he has. First delivery is due on Saturday and second on Tuesday. There are also a couple of farms in Lincolnshire which may use in the future for Lincolnshire cheeses. Hope you are getting there with the packing and with preps for Christmas. Take care petal x
