Meal Planning

I am trying to get more into the practice of meal planning even if I swap around the meals for the night.  One of the reasons I want to do this, is that I want to make more stuff myself, like if making a cheese cake, I want to be able to produce the cream cheese, but that entails a certain amount of planning in order that you have the right ingredients available. The general outline for the coming week is as follows, although may well be added to or days moved around depending on what we fancy to eat.

Friday night

We had fillet steak, fried onions, fried exotic mushrooms and home made chips.  Went down very nicely and really enjoyed our meal.

Saturday night

We had what were supposed to be Garlic Kievs.  Turned out to be what I think was a peppered Chicken breast but very tasty.  I also succumbed and made chips again.  That is it for the week though.

Sunday night

Cooked the two rib of Beef joint, accompanied with broccoli, carrots, peas, Romanesco Cauliflower, Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and mashed potato.

Absolutely gorgeous no end left for at least another three meals including the bones to make stock/soup out of.  So harvesting the joint for as much as we could.

Monday night

A duplicate of Sunday night's Two Rib Beef Roast with different vegetables.

Followed by the Cherimoya (Custard Apple).

Tuesday night

Pea Soup

Roasted Italian sausages served with roasted mixed vegetables

Pudding home made Rice pudding served with Autumn Medley Fruit Jam

Wednesday night

Home made "Cornish" style pasties, served with mashed potatoes, peas and carrots and gravy. Made from Beef Skirt, veggies and home made pastry. Any leftover pasties can be had mid-day during the week and some may go to the kids too.

Thursday night

Mixed grill, consisting of sausage, bacon, mushrooms, liver and steak.  Served with tomatoes and fried egg.

There are additional things I do in any week as well; many of these items either get used as mid-day eating or for a snack or to finish a meal off.  We do not always have pudding sometimes because it is too much but there are exceptions.

Friday night

Home made Lasagna served with a side salad.

Additional items for throughout the week:

Soups:

Pea Soup

Roast Pumpkin Soup

French Onion Soup

Baking:

Sausage Rolls Two ways; with extra herbs and also with Onion Relish.

Milles Feuilles (a thousand leaves) pastry slices filled with fresh cream and Mandarin orange segments.

Plain Scones.

Cheese and Roasted Leek Quiche

Cheese Scones.

Bread:

Bread Buns

Pizza

Foccacia

Loaves

Sides/Forward Preparation:

Fried Onions for Pea soup

Roasted Leeks for relish on sarnies and for use in Roasted Leek and Cheese Quiche.

Home made plain yogurt that can be used for breakfast and for puddings and to serve with home made curries or adding to smoothies and milk shakes.

Cook Lasagna and keep in the fridge.

Prepare the Cornish style pasties and fridge uncooked

I also have a couple of wine kits to start off this week, as well as the Ginger Beer Plant and a Ginger Bug starter.

Also, sourdough starters.

So a lot to do, but anything to do with good food even if it involves a bit of effort is okay by me.  We might not have much, but we do eat well overall.  I would rather pay out for a nice bit of meat, something with taste and have a smaller piece than pay out for a piece of meat that we do not enjoy at all.  I then shop around finding good prices on the rest of the items to compensate.

There are of course always things going on in the Kitchen under the preserves section, or long term planning for other items.

What do you pre-plan in  your kitchen?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Catch you soon.
