Oh What a Grey, Wet and Cold Day

It has been another horrible wet, cold and grey day here in Peterborough and I don't do grey too well.  When we first moved in here, the wallpaper in the majority of the rooms was grey.  We lived with it for a while, and then I went OTT on the colour scheme; just anything to lighten things up and add a bit more colour.  Although grey is a lovely blending colour, it is not a colour for me.  It means melancholy, coldness and despair and does not fit with my psyche at all and as a result I tend to steer clear of it.

Things are at a bit of a standstill here and will be until the end of the week as we forgot to order something that is needed for the kitchen we just have to wait for it to arrive whereupon it will be all systems go.  These things are sent to try us.

Today has been an interesting day.  I have managed to break another two teeth.  Not impressed, down to the medical condition and the Vitamin D deficiency not lack of care, but very embarrassing all the same.  Fortunately I am at the Dentist on Wednesday for a check up; so we shall see what happens next.  My teeth do not hurt, but I do not think it will be too long before he will be scheduling extractions.

Secondly, I received a phone call from the hospital, offering me the gall bladder surgery for 22 December and wanting an answer there and then.  I have had to decline for a couple of reasons, namely with things going on here on those dates and if I had taken advantage of this it would have caused quite a few more problems.  The second reason is because my head is not in the right headspace at the moment.  I will be offered another appointment.  I know I need the surgery but I am also a big believer of being in a positive mind-set before having anything done as I believe it aids in recovery. At the moment I am a bit out of synch, I think as a result of the weather.  I shall not refuse the next one though and will be more geared up to take advantage.

In the meanwhile OH decided to walk her Ladyship, and called in at our local butcher on the way back.  He came home with a couple of fillet steaks for tea tomorrow night.  I therefore assume that he fancies chips and the usual accompaniments. I might also make a home made rice pudding for a change.

Tonight for tea we have had a big steak and onion pie, served with mashed potato, broccoli, carrots, petit-pois and sweet onion gravy.  It has gone down very nicely indeed.  I was cold again on the inside and this has warmed me up a treat.  Good comfort food for a cold winter's day.  I must say that it was very tasty and certainly did  us both good.  Comfort food of the highest order.

Tomorrow we have a trip to my favourite butcher's farm shop.  We are treating both of the children to their Christmas dinner and are going to organise what they would like and place the order for them, hopefully to be picked up with our Turkey just before Christmas. It helps them out, makes sure they have a good meal, and forms part of their Christmas present. We usually give them something towards something that they would like rather than buy them something that is not going to be used or needed.  I have little shopping to do as a result.  I am also hopeful to top up on one or two other bits in readiness for Christmas when we go into the shop tomorrow.

I am also researching some new to me baking recipes to use over the Christmas period.  Nothing too exotic but using stuff that will be in the house in any event, so no specialist buying which is easy on the pocket.

I am still digging out Christmas decorations here and there inbetween everything else as well as squirrelling items that I am finding for the kitchen into the kitchen in the baking tin  cupboards.

Right am off to potter.

Hope everyone is keeping safe and is gradually getting everything sorted out for Christmas.

Catch you soon.
