Garden Tales Taming the Garden Day Two Part Two Actual Day Monday 30 April 2023

Continuing on from my previous post.  This is real life for me and my attempts in getting things straightened out.  I did manage to accomplish this 18 months ago, however real life things have got in the way since then including surgery.

I am for the best part tackling this on my own. G has certain jobs that he will need to do like going to the tip, trimming down those plants that I cannot deal with and dig out the root balls and sort the patio slabs out as they have gone a bit up and down.  That is something I cannot deal with.  I will then be able to put the patio table and chairs up there once that is straightened out to sit out of an evening.

Some of the before photos:

This is the lower part of the garden where the greenhouses are to go.  You can see the uncovered frame at the end of the fencing.  You could not get down here because of the brambles etc. that were all overgrown onto the path and were quite high too.  Can get through now just.

On the next photo you can see the upward stalk of the Buddleia.  Quite a bit has already been chopped off of this, and there is a lot more to go yet.  I also have to deal with the massive bramble patch in front of it!

A little later on further back the brambles have all been cleared off of the path and can get right down to the greenhouse frame now.

Picture after this:

The greenhouse frame was on the floor filled with no end of pots and trays, brambles and grasses and bindweed.  You can just see the water barrel at the back of the photo.  The area behind that is the jungle.  That is not being tackled yet.  In front there are two apple trees, Ballerinas and in the middle of them both was a cherry tree that used to produce in excess of 40lb of cherries a year.  The variety was a beautiful Black cherry called Stella. It was supposed to be on a dwarf rootstock.  All three trees had been purchased with a small bequest and in memory of G's Aunty.  We came home from work one day to find that the tree had been mutilated by the Agent for the Landlord.  At no time did they approach us about the tree, but it would appear from what we can piece together that next door neighbour had complained direct and they acted unilaterally without consulting us and chopped it down.  We were not very happy.  Their chopping down was not done sensitively as it killed the tree.  It is now covered in Ivy and the local birds nest in it.  To say I was unhappy was an understatement!

After:

The big Buddleia which has been thinned out considerably.  There is still no end of stuff to shift out from the side of it, but it has had a severe hair cut!

Below are the large stalks that OH needs to cut out as I cannot deal with them or the root ball.  This is a self-seeded plant.

To the side of the Buddleia.  There is still more to the side of this, but getting there slowly.

Just some more rubbish ready to go.

A clearer picture of the stuff yet to be cleared behind the Buddleia.

I also have to sort out the racking which holds all the pots, both large, medium and small and some of the planters I have as well as the big greenhouse trays and the seed trays.  A lot to do with this. Despite being put away clean, the covers got damaged and now each and every thing will need a good wash with a little bit of bleach to sterilise them.

Getting there very slowly, still early days.

Catch you soon for another update.
