Back to getting Stuck in Part Two
And so we have a new week, a new page to fill and more of the same type of work that we had last week. Sometimes it seems never-ending, but I am determined to get things under control here this year. As I said at the beginning of the year I am starting the year off as I mean to go on.
We had to go and get the electric and gas topped up today as we are on a card meter for both.
These were the Plans for Monday (Reconvened to Tuesday)
I hope to get the kitchen done today even if it means me pulling a late night to get things back under control. Then I can start the bathroom on Tuesday.
- Clean and gut the cooker; needs G assistance because the glass needs to come out of the oven doors. Want all this done as I plan on making some more bread in the next few days;
- Sort out and clean top two cupboards with baking tins in;
- Sort out the smallest wall cupboard and get Sterilising tabs, winemaking bits and bobs and
- Finish off sorting out the condiments cupboard;
- Rest of kitchen needs scrubbing out;
- Items in other rooms need to go back into the kitchen;
- Scrub the floor;
- Close the door;
Sadly none of this happened as I ended up having to go and pay for Gas and Electric and also went shopping. I have popped up a separate post about this.
Plans for Monday Evening
After the events of today, we were then not sure what we wanted for tea. In the end I cooked some fresh Sweetcorn that had bought from Aldi and made a couple of Cheese, Ham and Onion Paninis for tea. This simple tea went down very well indeed. We had a later tea than envisaged.
I have since been sorting the fridge out a little bit to get all today's purchases safely put away. Lots of lovely fresh stuff. I also bought some Peking Duck with Plum sauce and the pancakes for tomorrow evening's tea. Need to go and buy cucumber and Spring Onions for that for tomorrow night's tea.

Nah - didn't happen. Not likely to happen for a couple of days.
I ended up in the dining room as I had a bit of a cave in on the boxes. I am therefore dealing with the dining room first. This was my original plan, but I keep getting side-lined by various things or items becoming a priority.
I started by sorting out the fridge after clearing up the cave in. Getting all the fresh stuff in there and being able to have a good look at what we had and what we did not have. Doing a little meal planning as a result of this. Please see separate post for this. It has also given me a little more space in the kitchen.
Fortunately my new cutlery drawer came today to put on top of one of the Dressers in order to centralise where the cutlery is. I am extremely pleased with this.
Plans for Tuesday Evening
Carrying on with the dining room. Dealing with the washing up and drying up. Washing machine on, and tumbler on. Getting things washed and dried although I have still quite a bit to do. Tumble Dryer is going to be shifted tomorrow to make it easier to get in and out of the kitchen/dining room.
Plans for Wednesday
Well I had plans but did not quite get there. So have taken the day off in effect with a view to getting back into my stride tomorrow after I have met with a friend.
Plans for Thursday
None as out with a friend will reconvene when back home. Had a lovely catch up with my friend. I had to go to the Chemist for a few bits and bobs. Whilst I was out I nipped into the Charity shop and came home with several pieces to add to some collections I already have ongoing and a couple of other pieces I found I must say rather cheaply. There has been a separate post filed in this regard.
Back into the dining room. Continue with sorting this room out.
I started with the base of one of the Dressers. This is where my everyday crockery tends to be kept but there is also a lot of pie dishes, casseroles, cake stands, fruit dishes, flan dishes etc in there. It has been a while since this was bottomed out so I had everything out of the bottom of the Dresser and then set about washing it and putting it back in. I have been very pleased to rediscover quite a lot of lovely things. Here are a few:
We had Toad in the Hole for Dinner and it was just what was needed as it has been a cold old day.
Plans for Friday
Today has not been a good day due to a bad night with Missy and of course the howling winds of Storm Eowyn! When I eventually got up, I did not feel 100% and so have taken things a little easy. Tomorrow will get stuck in again.
I started working down the side wall where the fridge and freezer are. I have started clearing the Dresser, by yesterday stripping out the server ware, glass, crystal from one of the Dressers. I gave it a good clean up and a bit of a polish. I still have a fair bit to do though to complete this. I have to empty the drawers out and give them a good going over. Once the top of the Dresser has been sorted out and cleaned and polished I can then hopefully get my new Cutlery Drawer in situ for easy access and sort the Dresser top out a bit better than it has been.
Will have to clean the top of the Freezer and the Fridge and add in one of the poly tubs for storing my baking tins in. The next bit is to retrieve all the baking tins from wherever they are in the house and decant them into the new poly tub.
I also need to sort out the stacking poly drawers which hold a lot of my kitchen hand equipment and I can perhaps organise this in one fair swoop. There is a second stack which I am going to pop down by the side of the Freezer; yet again that will need sorting and organising. That will be one side of the room sorted then.
Then to the other Dresser and get that stripped down in a similar manner.
Then I can set about the boxes on the table. Needs a really good sort out, but that is slowly happening.
Hopefully will get the dining room sorted out in the next couple of days or so.
Plans for Saturday
Will continue on with the dining room until conclusion. Going to be an early start though.
Sort out the bathroom; this is going to take a day at least. Loads of kitchen stuff in here again which will get decanted into the dining room; I have a box in here which I am popping all my baking tins into. I had to empty a full cupboard in the kitchen to pop in my Accessories and parts for my Magimix;
Started to clear the Dresser and clean it. Only managed to sort out the bottom of the Dresser thus far which houses quite a bit of my everyday cooking ware and everyday crockery. Everything washed out and made "tickety boo"!
Plans for Sunday
Got stuck in the dining room. Sorting a load of boxes and the contents, labelling where necessary. Very in-depth work here as it had got a bit of a mess, but is slowly coming back. A lot of this will go into the back bedroom when I have that sorted. However starting to clean and restore the dining room.
Plans for Sunday Evening
Carried on with the dining room and did more sorting but it is very slow work at present. Once all the nitty gritty stuff has been sorted will see more of an improvement all at once but that is misleading in itself as quite a bit of work entailed to get it here.
Therefore very much a slower week where my patience has been tried on several occasions but these things are sent to try us. Some things did not happen and still have not happened but there we are I keep saying "Tiz just the depth". Slow progress is happening. I will not know what to do with myself when everything has been done and dusted which is some way off! I will update on that more next week.
Right new day, new week.
Getting stuck in again.
Catch you later.

You may not have got all that you wanted to get done completed - but you have still done a lot and sometimes we just have to take a deep breath and adjust.
ReplyDeleteI have had a busy weekend in the kitchen - made soup, made a pasta bake, baked 18 egg cups filled with sausage & veg, roasted a pork roast, baked a tray of chicken thighs, cooked a pot of quinoa and prepared a number of different veggies = so, meals are set for the week (also have a lot of salad to get through) - and some meals have gone into the freezer for later. It was a bit exhausting but worth it. This week I will concentrate on giving my apt. a good clean. I am in the office for the next three mornings but will be home between 2 and 3pm so will try to get a bit done each and every day. It never ends does it?
