Something a little different for tea tonight

Yesterday

G went to Moor Farm in Newborough yesterday to visit the Butcher.  I was left babysitting the animals and getting them sorted.

He came back with what are called a couple of "Melts" which appear to be like a Beefburger with a melting middly bit and also a roasting sheet of beef and veggies and so I am serving them together as really for a good portion each we needed the same again as to what he bought.  However it is a taster and something different to what we are used to and so I am keen to give it a try.  He also came back with a Chicken (which was designated for tonight's tea) however that will happen tomorrow now.  More on that another day. A tub of curry sauce for a curry during the week, a couple of Gammon steaks and a couple of hot large sausage rolls.  Very tasty but far too big for me.  What I call a man-sized sausage roll.

We had a good covering of snow overnight and at 4:00am when I looked out the window this morning, next door's roof was covered with a good covering of Snow.  It looked as though someone had sprinkled a big box of icing sugar all over it.  We have had rain and sleet since then and it has now gone.  Whilst it was snowing it did warm up a fair bit, and at the moment it is not as cold as yesterday.  It is nasty damp and wet day out and we have nowhere to go so are choosing to stay housebound at the moment and keeping in the warm.  More plotting and planning time going on though so swings and roundabouts.

Tea certainly looks very appealing.  Hope it tastes as good as it looks.  It certainly smelt very aromatic when I walked into the kitchen half way through the cooking.

Tea was delicious.  So much so it has given me some ideas to create my own versions.  When I first saw the meals which were a small tray each probably destined just for one, we amalgamated them into one meal as I did not think that there would be enough for a good meal.  Wrong - more than enough for me and just about enough for G.  The Melt was solid meat, with a barbecue sauce in the top in a hollow of the meat.  Texture more like steak but not similar to a meat loaf.  Very tasty in any event.  Would have these again.  The steak tray bake though has given me some more ideas as I regularly do tray bakes here, but tend to use sausages and bacon more than anything else although I have used chicken.  So lots of food for thought!

Keep safe and keep warm wherever you are.

Catch you soon.

  1. That meal does look good. It was about minus 14C when I left for church this morning - not unusual for us - but no snow so didn't even bother with boots. I have a down parka so it keeps me nice and warm. Toronto is protected by Lake Ontario so we don't normally get as much snow as surrounding areas although the city is very big so the northern end will probably have a few inches. My sister lives about 1.5 east of here and they have about six inches and my stepmom called today and they have about a foot on the ground now. We are used to it of course and Toronto alone has hundreds of snowplows and sanders (gritters) so roads get cleared fairly quickly. Our homes are also far better insulated and for someone like me who rents a flat - hear is included so I never have to worry about that - in fact - it is illegal to turn off the heat here in Winter for non payment and the city will get onto landlords very quickly to make repairs when needed - it is too dangerous otherwise. Stay safe.

I've only ever had goose a couple of times - once in Hungary and once when dad decided to give it a try - quite tasty but a lot of fat to deal with. It is interesting to try different foods.
