Change of Room - Back in the Kitchen

Needs must too much to do here.

I had planned on being in the front bedroom today but I have had to change tack and progress with the kitchen instead.  Last night however, I found and I have a lot of lovely clothes and they are not sorted and organised how I like them to be. I tend to colour-co-ordinate on the rails.  However in the course of shifting stuff about I found no end of UFO's and new kits all of which I have deposited into one of the large plastic trunks for the time being so that they can be sorted from here.  At least they are contained a the moment.

Today has been a practical sort it out kind of day.  It was also  main Dustbin day and our bin was full.  I have since fetched the bin in and put it back in the garden as well as brought in the neighbour's dustbin as well. I have also added to the rubbish pile in the front garden having been around the house and bagged everything up that can go out.  Another two large bags have also been gathered up and have been placed into a cleaned out dustbin.  I have added some dustbin powder to the bin as well.  Going past everyone's bins this morning was a bit aromatic, due for the best part to all the hot weather we have had.  At least mine is cleaned out and smelling a bit sweeter.

I have also been to chemist and stocked up with cleaning items.  I was running low and they are a little bit cheaper than elsewhere on certain items so well worth going in there.  Also managed to get some more of the very big sturdy bags.  They have not had them in for a couple of weeks.  Therefore four rolls came back with me.  Should keep me going for a few weeks.  Plus when I bag up for the tip a lot of the bags come back and are re-used as a lot of the items are recyclable that am sending down and leave the bags  clean.  Too much for the recycle bin. I have also stocked up with some toiletries as well.

I also nipped into the Charity shop. I nipped in yesterday and forgot to say that I picked up two Opie reproduction advertising pictures.  I also saw a book case which I am keeping my eye on.  I could do with it in the back room for storing some of my many books on.

A Mabel Lucy Attwell One

And a Sunlight Soap one.

These are going to be framed in due course.  May go in the bathroom as I have some similar advertising prints already, including a beautiful one of "Bubbles" advertising Pears Soap.

For the past couple of times I have been into the shop, I have been eyeing up an original watercolour painting, which I suspect is from the 1930's/1940's. It was speaking to me. I ended up buying it for £4. It is old and needs a clean up, the mounting really needs sorting out, but I am unsure as to how best to proceed with this.  The inner glass needs cleaning as well, the mount has gone grubby. The frame needs a bit of a touch up but otherwise is reasonably sturdy. The picture was well-framed though a gold frame and it has the framers sticker on the back.  As the picture is paper-taped, I think the sticker will end up damaged unless I cut it.  I do have new paper tape to put on the frame after it has been cleaned and re-mounted.  I have plans for this picture to be in the hallway, probably at the top of the stairs or somewhere near, as I also have a very ornate mirror that needs some Rub n Buff on it to cover up some minor marks.  A lovely mirror though.  If the mirror does not go on top of the stairs it will probably go into the front room.

The back of the picture and the label

I am already ahead planning for the staircase. I have the white gloss paint for all of the woodwork in the house already. The walls need painting and I have seen a nice anaglypta reproduction Victorian style Dado panel that I think would look nice painted a Teal "Greeny-blue", with the top being painted white.  I am going to need an extendable wall roller to do this though.  We do not currently have a stair carpet as the old one was becoming a liability with tripping and as I am none too good on my feet  and trip over everything.  I therefore took it up, but we have not managed to replace it.  I have however seen a stair runner that I quite like.  It depends how much it is though at the end of the day as I do not have masses of money but I do want to tidy things up quite a bit.  It may prove just that little bit out of reach.  Will have a look into this in a bit more detail when I get a minute, I do however think it would really tidy the hall up.

Needless to say that I already have the wallpaper for the front room and a dado printed panel border to add as well oh and some curtains, not quite sure if they will go though, so could end up buying in some different ones.  I will still keep the other curtains if I do this as they are Sanderson curtains and will if we move come into play in another home as I have always planned on having them.  I like bright cheerful colours, but I also like vintage styling as well.  I like Art Nouveau items (not all), and 1930's/1940's items.  I have quite a bit of vintage embroidery from this period much of which is unframed.  I intend to have a gallery wall somewhere in my home at some point.  However I am working one piece at a time, and getting the pieces cleaned and framed.  Some of the pictures may need mounts, but they can be sourced later in the day if deemed to be required for a piece.  Then I can place a bulk order for the mounts.

That was not all that I came away with.  Today was a picture frame type of day.  They had an offer on for frames for £1 each.  I therefore said thank you very much and ended up bringing seven different frames home with me.  I will insert pictures of the frames at a later date, time is a bit constrained at the moment. They are needed for mounting some completed needlework pieces, including some vintage pieces. I am also going to start looking for some cheaper frames just for the glass as I have had a bit of an accident with a couple of frames just recently and they are worth saving, just need new glass.  Thought it might be easier to source this way on.  I am not keeping the pictures - well maybe the cat, but the bulk of the buys have just been for the frames.  I particularly like the two bevelled edge ones.

Seven frames for £1 each.  All of them are pretty nice frames in a good condition.

I have also managed to accomplish five loads of laundry and the machine is still on the go, and got everything air dried.  So well pleased about that.

On the Blackberry front I have also managed to harvest in about 1kg of Blackberries out of the garden.  Grown from wild plants in the garden not cultivated ones.  These are going into the freezer until I have a little more time to process them.

I have loads of Courgettes coming as well.  Must say we are particularly taken with the ball Courgettes.  I did some of these for G this morning for his fry up (yes I cooked him breakfast as well) amongst everything else have been dealing with.  Seems to be a regular thing here, although it is not always a full fry but a variation of it.

I shall no doubt be in the kitchen again this evening, after I have fed the cats.  Not watering up tonight will do in the morning.

Tea tonight has been a take-away as it was far easier for me to be able to carry on working.  We have had a Chinese meal.  I have far too much to do as usual but I must carry on bogging in and getting as much cleared as I can.  If I can shift a little more it means that I will be that much ahead when I start again tomorrow.  Fingers crossed things go to plan.

I do have a project for G to do for me though. I have some build up boxes that can be used for storing shoes in.  I have a thing about shoes, and I am hoping he will build some up for me.  Fingers crossed and toes plaited!  They will be stored into the "walk in wardrobe" formerly the very small airing cupboard off the front bedroom which I turned into clothes storage after the hot water tank was taken out.  Some will also be stored in the bottom of my pine wardrobes.  Really everything needs to come out of here i.e. the small walk-in wardrobe as plaster needs to be repaired and the small room re-painted and allowed to dry before putting everything back in an organised fashion.  This is also on the "To Do" List, but present I am time-constrained on doing this.  However I can get it tidied out.

So lots of things being planned, and lots of work being executed.  It is going to be full on for the next couple of weeks or so.

Right am off to potter.

Have a lovely evening.

Catch you soon.
