Monday - What a busy day
We were supposed to have had an appointment today but had to cancel it due to G not being well. it has been re-convened for a week on Wednesday.
I therefore had a bit of a lay in this morning until 9:30am and then got up sorted breakfast and then started work. It has been a very busy day. I am still wading through the washing and still have a load more to do despite having been washing all day. Fortunately everything I have washed is now air dried and in the bath broken down into bin bags ready for me to start operation ironing sometime this week. It is broken down into bags so that I am not doing piles of stuff at any one time. My back would not cope with that this week. Fortunately the weather has been good today and I got everything dried outside. Will carry on with the washing tomorrow and then hopefully that will be it on the washing front. That will be a big relief.
We ran out of electric and so had to go and get that sorted out. This entailed moving a lot of stuff to get into the under-stair cupboard to retrieve the key and then popping it all back after it had been topped up. In the process managed to break some glass in the process and ended up doing a bit of a tidy up in the dining room before gravitating upstairs. Messy but necessary at least things are tidier and freer flowing in the walk way through the dining room. I have plans for the under-stair cupboard later on in the week. Probably Thursday when G goes fishing again. Means I can chuck everything outside the back door and get the cupboard sorted. G will not be happy but it needs doing.
I then started work in the back bedroom. I am generally tidying and it is taking time. As the saying goes Rome was not built in a day so it is going to take several attempts.
Later on I went into the garden and started the watering up. That also took sometime. I had intended on carrying on from where I left off yesterday where I sorted out the back bit of the patio slabs leading up to the house wall. I had managed to get four of the planters weeded and all the edging around the paths weeded out and tidied up. My intention this evening was to do the side border which is full of thistles from next door, but I was just too tired to deal with it tonight. Will probably tackle that sometime tomorrow.
My plans for tomorrow concern the front bedroom. I need to get clothes put away and the room decluttered and tidied up which is going to take sometime. I have space in the back room at the moment to drag out some of the stuff and get it organised a bit in there before re-packing it away, washing, drying and polishing a bit at a time. So while G is out of the way, I intend to start in here and get it organised again. I am primarily starting with the walk-in wardrobe and am going to get the shoe boxes that have been made up and shoes added to them into place in the cupboard in order that I can locate them easily. I have a lot of lovely clothes and some accessories and it will be nice to dress up a bit now and then going forward instead of always being in housework clobber that is past its best. Will see how I get on.
I am doing lots of "bitting" and "bobbing" around on different work projects as well. Nothing definitive, but it all adds up. For instance I cleaned the best part of the little room and the bathroom out the other day. Washed all the walls, skirting, windows, bathroom fittings etc. etc. The floor is the only bit that needs to be cleaned.
Where possible I am also filling in bits of missing plaster as well so that it is nice and dry when it comes to either touching up or decorating.
Update: I have since filled in the missing plaster under the sink, and on the bath wall. There is still a little more to do on the ceiling, and around the outside wall near the skirting but that will happen in any event. Getting a dab hand at dealing with the filling. That will be allowed to dry for a few days before rubbing down in preparation for painting. Another work project after this will be sanding down the architrave and woodwork and then painting that in white gloss. All of it being done in stages or where there is a bit of time, all to move the project forward. Once this is done the walls will be painted in the bathroom. A similar job is planned for touching up the kitchen paintwork and the architrave needs preparation and gloss painting.
I was hoping to get the flooring done, but that will probably happen after 8 August now. If I can do sooner will do.
Then of course we have the decorating of the dining room with the wallpaper that I bought. This is going to be a real learning curve but I do not think that we will get started on that within the next week. There is quite a lot of stuff going on. However, the dining room will get bottomed out as best as I can and cleaned through, but that will happen after the under-stair cupboard has been sorted.
I also plan on stripping the doors, one at a time and using a varnish over them to make them a little more durable. That will happen piecemeal though moving forward.
I have linen to sort out and pack away as well as everything else. It will keep me busy and move all the projects forward that bit further.
Oh and the garden will be moving forward too even if it is only a little bit each day it will be worth it.
As I said in earlier posts, I am determined to get this house sorted moving forward. It may take a bit of time, but I am determined to get things sorted in the end on all fronts. Then I can turn my attention to actually doing what I want to do i.e. my crafting and sit down for set periods working my big cross stitch and outstanding UFOs. now that we are starting to drift to the darker days. I think autumn is going to be earlier this year overall and I want to be as prepared as I can on all fronts. I want the decorating out the way if at all possible by October whilst paint has time to dry properly.
I am desperate for a holiday, but that will have to wait and hopefully will get a few weeks later on in the season and with the garden that is just not feasible just yet. Plus I have a lot of preserving to do in-between everything else. I know how to keep myself busy if nothing else.
Hope everyone has had a good day.
Catch you soon.
