Rain, Rain Go Away.....

come back another day. So goes the rhyme from my childhood.

However, I for one (and I do not think I am on my own) to be very relieved to have a good old dousing.  It started last night and has gone on until about 4:00pm today.  The Sun is now out and the temperature much more comfortable. The plants seem very relieved to have moisture instead of heat.  I am relieved as I only have to water the greenhouses tonight.  Should do a lot of good.

It was not an early start today as Missy had night manoeuvres on her mind last night.  As she falls easily these days by choice we make sure that she is either caught or rescued without hurting herself, which means that we were suffering lack of sleep as a result.  I do intend to be up early tomorrow though as I have an awful lot to do.  However I do prefer to be busy.

I had to nip out at about 2:00pm today to go and stock up on pet food as we were out.  I also nipped into Sainsbugs to pick up a few things for eating and snacking on as I am in the kitchen scrubbing things down.  It is going to take me another couple of days.

I have checked the weather forecast, and it is now dry for a few hours so out has gone the washing I did earlier on to try and get some of it dry or at least partially dry.  This encompassed the boil white wash for the dishcloths and they are all now pegged out on the line.  I only use a dishcloth once before it is put in the bucket for washing.  I do not like the disposable cloths.  Once the cloths are past their best as they are cotton they are disposed of.  I do the same with the tea towels, which is why I have regular boil washes on the go here.  I prefer to do things this way.  I also have an old pan that I use for boiling dishcloths when I do not have a washing machine in operation.  An old fashioned way but a way of getting house linen clean as I do like a constant supply of fresh tea towels and dishcloths.  The weather for tomorrow seems to be constant rain and Thunderstorms.  We have not as yet had any storms but they were forecast.

I am washing up items that have been in cupboards and have a stash of stuff out of cupboards at the moment as the cupboards are going to be cleaned one at a time.  It is a deep clean, but once it is done it will keep for a few weeks before having another go.  I tend to do a deep clean like this every five to six weeks (sometimes less) depending on what is going on.  The soap powder cupboard has been washed out and re-filled.  I have had to put some of my Fabric conditioner on the shelves in the little room as it gets knocked off the worktop next to the dishwasher when we go by.  It is a bit of a tight squeeze.

Once the top of the sink has been sorted out and scrubbed within an inch of its life I will be washing out and re-organising the sink cupboards.  I have had a re-stock of cleaning items as they are normally stored here.  So that will be a good job out of the way with.

I also have the soaking bucket for grubby items on the go before they get washed in the washing machine using the oxygen powder and boiling water.  Fingers crossed things  come up well.

I have also bought in some Sweet Peppers as I would like to make some Sweet Pepper jelly and some Chilli Jam and Chilli jelly as well as some Sweet and Sour Chilli sauce. I am hoping to get those done in the next few days or so.  Need to get some Pantry supplies on the shelves.

I have also started collecting dried fruit in readiness for Christmas cooking as well.  Yep we are getting to the time of year where food items are bought and put up for cooking.  I tend to be an ingredients cook, buy the source ingredients and then make what I want from them.

I have 14 x1 Litre jars which have been bought in for making soup for the Pantry shelf.  Thinking of French Onion Soup to start with as this is a good one for using in stews, casseroles as well as just as a soup.  I intend to buy some more of these jars in as some items require larger jars for the quantity of the item to be used at any one time.  I am going to be buying in another electric preserver - Water-bath/tea urn shortly as well to assist with these larger jars.  I have had one in the past and they are very easy to use.

There is also Lemon Curd to be made.

Tea is to be fresh buns with either pate, ham, beef, pastrami, crab pate or cheese in.  They are crusty buns.  A nice simple tea means that I can then get on in the kitchen - it will be a late night tonight.

Sorry this post should have been posted on Saturday night, and as something happened, I did not get to it.  Many apologies.

Things are a bit hectic around here at the moment, with other jobs having to take precedence on what was planned as a matter of priorities.   I am getting p..d off a bit as my focus is having to pivot quite quickly.  It looks as though it will really be a late night tomorrow.

I am having to go back into the back bedroom not by choice out of necessity.

Catch you soon.
