Trying to keep myself occupied

One of the hardest things for me has been staying still and effectively not do anything but rest whilst I recover from my recent seizure.  For a lot of the time I have sat - certainly had no computer time and very little TV time.  I therefore dug out a UFO recovered when sorting out the back bedroom recently which is a large cotton bedspread worked in pale pink, green and cream.  It is just a simple Granny Square pattern and I had already worked over 30 squares and partly sewn some up when I picked it up again.  I decided that I was not happy with the partial stitching of the squares I had done and so I have pulled these down.  I had also worked about 8 pink centres and I have worked about five of these since picking up.  This throw/bedspread I did not have all the yarn for and have found that the cotton yarn sold by Sostrene Grene is a very good match.  Not perfect, but if I mix the squares up well they should blend in nicely with each other.

Hopefully now I have got my teeth back into this project again I will be able to keep at it until it is completed.  That is certainly my intention although I know from my past record this has not always been the case. However things are what they are and will be completed at some point as will most of the things I have to hand.  As we are moving towards autumn, crafting of an evening will become one of those things that I will revert too as a matter of course.  There are of course a lot of other things, and if I get fed up (which happens) I will probably shift to one of the other UFOs and of course there is my large Cross Stitch of the lady which I have not done anymore too.  I would really like to get cracking with that again.  I can therefore keep myself occupied probably too occupied as time is often the element I lack most of.   Although I am doing some crochet of an evening now, I also still have my preserving pile to tackle and certainly for this week this is where the emphasis is going to be and possibly every day moving forward.                                                                                                                                                                          Yesterday I managed to get four 250g packs of cherry tomatoes for 50p per pack.  Today I have bought four packs of tomatoes.  I have fresh Basil in pots, and intend to do a roasted tomato onion and garlic mixture  run it through the mill and then bottle it for the Pantry shelf.  It will only be a little bit, but little bits build up over time and can be used for Lasagna, as a base for a soup mix, for Spaghetti and other types of pasta.  I always feel happiest when I have a lot of tomato products to hand.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              Today, I also have harvested three large servings of sliced roasted Pork and gravy from yesterday's dinner for three double meals later on.  I try not to waste meat of any kind and this helps out with the basis of a good meal.  We have of late been having them on a Tuesday evening when G comes back from fishing, just adding veggies to the meal.  It goes down well especially as my time is limited with Missy not being a happy bunny and needing one to one attention.    What I may try and do is buy in a couple of different joints of meat and cook and prepare them ready to go, as well as obtain a couple of more joints so that we have a choice of meat moving forward.                                                                                                                                                                                         I think G is going fishing again tomorrow -  we will be having something different though tomorrow having had two good full meals already from the pork joint from yesterday.  I also intend to buy in a couple of kilos of cubed chicken (or cube it myself) and keep that to hand for stir fries, pies, stew etc.                                                                                                                  Well am off to finish off the cucumber.                                                                                                                                            Have a lovely evening everyone.                                                                                                                                          Catch you soon.                                                                                                                                                                  Pattypan xx

  1. At least you are able to crochet when you are resting up. Do you have Audible books to listen to (or Podcasts on your phone?) I have Audible books on when I'm driving anywhere long-distance. Current one is S J Parris "Sacrilege".
