Latest Rounds of Covid and Flu jabs have commenced

I was invited to go for the flu jab today, and as I am eligible on the grounds of having a reduced immune system the latest Covid vaccine. Both of these were then administered.  Whilst at my GP Surgery, I was then offered two other vaccinations which I could either have today, next week, or the week after. I had not heard of these vaccinations and was not aware I was eligible for them. I have opted for this to be done next week on the grounds that I tend to react a little bit to any injection I receive and thought that four might be a bit much in one day.  I also wanted a little more information on the vaccinations which were being offered, which I have subsequently carried out and which are covered below.

When I came home, I subsequently went online to see what vaccinations were available to everyone generally and came up with this link from the NHS which clearly sets out the vaccinations available between the different age groups and gives a little more information as to what those vaccinations are for.  As I had not heard of them, I thought that many others may not be aware of them either and I thought it might be useful for people to be aware of what is being offered.  Sometimes because we are not aware of things, we can miss timelines of when these vaccinations can be taken  up through no fault of our own.

Link is here: NHS vaccinations and when to have them - NHS.

The first is the Pneumococcal vaccine.  Further details here: Pneumococcal vaccine - NHS which is for Pneumonia and also Meningitis cover.

The second one RSV which apparently gives assistance with what is a common cold virus which can cause pneumonia or Broncholitis.  Further information here: RSV vaccine - NHS

I therefore have a repeat visit next Saturday.  I am lucky to be looked after by my local GP Surgery as well as the local Hospital staff in many respects for which I am very grateful.

I also understand from what I was told that I will soon be offered the second part of the Shingles vaccination as well, which is part of a two part strategy to give protection against this very nasty illness and which I would not wish on my worst enemy.

I shall therefore tootle down next Saturday to get the next two injections due.

Catch you soon.

  1. Hey Tricia :) Thanks for this post, The Mr. goes next week for his flue and shingles jabs but we can't for the life of us remember if he's had the Pneumonia one or not so he'll ask them to check his records. He's not old enough and does not have any issues that would allow him to have the RSV. Hope all's well with the two of you.

    1. Hi Kelly, pleased it helped. I went for round two of the injections today, the RSV and the Pneumonia and Meningitis one. They also added another one to the list, which was the second part of the Shingles vaccination which I had in May. That was therefore three jabs today. Beginning to feel like a pincushion. Jabs on both arms and both arms are very uncomfortable but at least it is done and dusted. Because of my epilepsy and reduced immune system conditions I qualify two ways on. First of all with the epilepsy we have to prevent my temperature going up which can cause a seizure and equally just preventing them as best as we can. All the reduced immune conditions are caused by inflammation all give off similar symptoms and most of them compromise in their worst formats my lungs and chest. Others compromise other organs, such as the kidneys and heart. My body is basically attacking itself and preventing different areas from functioning correctly. Long history of auto immune conditions on both sides of the family, just each comes out very differently from person to person. I am lucky that they have treatments for them which makes things a little more liveable. A simple cold cripples me and I am usually plonked on antibiotics which I do try and keep away from unless absolutely necessary. It is a matter of trying to keep an equal balance which is not always achievable but I keep on trying. Pair of us are tootling along and okay for the best part which is the main thing. Hope you are now settled back up North and starting to settle and get back into your seasonal routines. My brother has just moved up to Lancashire to be near my nephews and their families. Feels very strange not having him near; totally understand why he has done it though. You take care Tricia xx
