Bit of a Disaster or should that be

...... back to the drawing board.

I have what is known as a sliding hiatus hernia as well as GORD and to say it played up a bit last night was a bit of an understatement especially as I had been doing reasonably well.

I had a lovely curry for my tea really mild just the way that I love it where you can taste all the flavours and I even kept a little of it for later as there was too much for me to eat there and then.  During the course of the evening, I pottered about and bent down to pick something up.  The bending seems to have triggered an attack and I was unwell.  So it is back to the drawing board on things again.  I was a bit upset as I had been doing reasonably well with it.  On reading up a little more about things one of the things advised to do was to have some ginger which helps with the nausea. I tried this and it seemed to work for me.  I nibbled on some preserved ginger that I keep in for baking and drank plenty of water.  I think that I am going to have to keep an eye on what I do and do not eat and see what I can and cannot eat.

I also had to sleep with my head at a higher angle than I am used to so that I could get to sleep and stop any choking episodes so I woke up with a bit of a stiff neck, and felt terribly tired and fatigued again.  Today therefore I have taken things easy.  However that does not mean doing nothing.

I have today defragmented the computer, and have also started out emptying out the Inbox.  It is a job that I have left and left, and I think this may have something to do with the fact that my emails are not coming through as they should.  Anyway I will get these down to a reasonable number which will do no harm in the longer term, but it is going to take me a good few days to get this really stripped back and more organised.  I am as they say taking the bull by the horns and dealing with something I have been procrastinating about for a while.  I had done some but not enough, and I have finished for today with it as I now have a headache, but will do more in the coming days.  No bad thing overall as I have some plans for the future where I am going to be using the computer much more than I have been recently. I want to get it set up for the things am interested in.  Am okay usually with computers if shown how to do something but a bit hesitant when am not sure.

Still have not got all the emails showing in the box, but need to check several other bits as well.

Right am off to get something light to eat.  Not in the mood for much after yesterday.

I am then hoping to do some embroidery.

Catch you soon.

  1. I am sorry to hear that you have a "sliding hiatus hernia" and hope that you can manage to live with it! I sympathize, as I have a hiatal hernia. My ear, nose, throat dr. looked at my larynx years ago and said part of my vocal cords had atrophied, hence my rough sounding voice. "We usually see this in our gastric reflux patients." My gastro dr. hadn't said anything to me about sleeping with the head of my bed elevated!! I went home and found some blocks or some books and elevated the head of my bed immediately, 3 inches. I now have it up to 4 inches and once had it up to 5 inches. But then my husband wanted some slick purple sheets and I found my feet sliding off the foot of the bed during the night. So away went those sheets and the bed went down an inch. I also don't use a pillow at all. This helps keep the kink out of my neck. Good luck with your gastro problems (if needed, losing even 10 lbs helps)!!

    1. Hi Ruth, sorry to be so tardy in getting back to you. The Doctor wh saw me for the gastric problems did not really explain much either and I certainly had not been told about raising the bed. Although I now have lots more pillows to keep my head at a different angle. I have a lot of auto immune conditions which interact with each other so you never quite know which one is firing off or causing an issue. Am trying to deal with the common denominators between them all as a starting point. I produce too many antibodies in my system (basically my system attacks itself without medication) and can ultimately cause major organ failure so I am trying to keep tabs on it. I find that Doctors are very good at diagnosing but not that helpful in giving advice with regard to living with a condition. It is a case of trial and error. Hope your hernia is behaving itself. Take care and it is lovely to hear from you. Tricia
