Embroidery

Something a little different today.  I apologise to those of you not into crafting of any type, but I love embroidery I always have.  A love I think that was nurtured by the fact that the first time I saw someone embroidering something was my mother when she was making a nightdress for my as yet unborn baby brother.  She smocked the nightgown and I remember thinking how beautiful it was.  Mum always made our clothes both knitted and sewn where she could.  It was only later in life that my cousin found a tablecloth that my Mum had started when she was at home half worked - and she and my aunt had finished it off.  The work by my mother was exceptional.  You could not tell the front from the back she was that good.  Curiously though she never taught me to embroider.  I learned that at school and although I do not consider myself particularly good at embroidery I do love it so though.

So much so, that I collect antique pre-worked and pre-loved pieces and have been collecting them for sometime.  The idea is to have a large gallery wall of embroidered pieces (some of them quite substantial) eventually and somewhere where the sun will not bleach and damage them.  I am thinking a staircase or a wall that does not receive natural light for citing them.  The staircase here may be a starting point.  I am currently collecting picture frames (mostly from Charity shops) to get them mounted, framed and then up on the wall.

I recently found on Etsy the shop of AnniemEmbroidery (i.e. Annie Morris from Kingsbridge in Devon).  Her Etsy shop is here:

I sent off for a couple of pre-printed panels.

One is a little scene of Mousehole

Please note these were the photos provided on my order slip.  They are not my photos.  Showing here to let you appreciate just how lovely these little kits are.

The other is a Summer Wreath hand embroidery panel.  I am intending to embroider this and then use it as a Central Panel in a patchwork front type cushion panel.  It is a relatively small panel so I am keen to make the most of it.

You just get the panels with these.  How you decorate them is up to you.  They are referred to as intuitive pieces as you embroider them in the stitches and colours you choose.  There is therefore no chart or threads included just the pre-printed panel.  The linen fabric is a very lovely quality though.

As a result of these first purchases, which I received today, I have made a further order.  There are three further pieces all small for embellishing and a Foxglove embroidery

A Spring Blooms Crewel Work project

A Primrose Heart Crewel Work Project

I like Crewel Work as well, and have a beautiful kit in the shape of a heart all worked in wool, which cost quite a bit of money.  I want to get some of the smaller projects out of the way with first before tackling this particular one. It is an absolute beauty and from the Needlewoman Studio who has a shop on Etsy.  The particular kit I have I do not think it has been available for quite a while.  However there is a link to her shop on Etsy so that you can see just how beautiful the kits and the work are.

And the Foxglove Embroidery Project

These should keep me going for the foreseeable. Until I spot something else.  It is something a bit different as well in that you choose which bits you want to embroider and how and what stitches and colours you use.  A little more creative freedom than normal.  I shall look forward to playing in due course.  I am still waiting for the last three to arrive, but have lots of stuff in-house that I can be getting on with.  Too much.  However, I am looking forward to adding these beautiful pieces to my home decor eventually.  I am still going to concentrate on the Christmas kits first of all.

Things are slowly moving forward on the household front.  More on that later on in the week.

Have a lovely evening everyone.

Catch you soon.
