The Day Before, Yesterday and Today

Saturday has been a slow day.  We had another rough night with Missy last night and very little sleep.  Feeling very hung over as a result.  Hopefully will get a better night with her tonight.

First thing I had to go and have my Covid Booster jab. Went out in jeans and a Tee shirt - forgot about a jumper, and wished I had popped one on as although warm in the sun in the shade it was a bit nippy. I am lucky that my surgery is very efficient I literally walked straight in, didn't know I had the jab as I did not feel anything and was out within one minute. It does make a difference getting a very experienced Nurse.  Am grateful for that. So far am okay although arm is starting to feel a little heavy.  That is why I opted to have it in my non-dominant arm.  G was surprised that I was done and dusted so quickly.

From there we paid a visit to the bakery.  Picked up some fresh buns for having with another salad planned for this evening together with Strawberries and Cream for afters.  Nice and simple.  Cannot be doing with much else this evening.  We do not do too badly on the food front.

Otherwise, it has been a slow and busy day so far.  Slow in that I have not hurried about running like a Rabbit but have been a bit slower like a Hare.  Been to the shop, topped up on animal food and human food.  Went to the Charity shop and have come home with a spiraliser.  Decided was going to have a go at Courgetti with some of the meals I have planned over the next few days and as I am planting a lot of Courgette Plants I want to be able to process them quickly and easily.  Spiraliser cost me Ā£3.  So will have a play and see what happens.  I love pasta of any type but want to add more veggie content into my diet where I can in any event.  Will therefore see how we get on.

I have also got a lot of washing done, and out on the line which I am pleased about taking advantage of the free drying weather.  Sadly not in the right frame of mind for doing some greenhouse sorting out.  Fingers crossed will feel brighter and up to tackling it tomorrow.  Arm is also hurting and I feel out of sorts and extremely shattered.  Think it is my normal reaction to the jab.  Usually takes me about a week to work through it.

Sunday

A quieter day all round where I had a bit of a lay in.  I pottered a lot in the house and got no end of washing done and dried out on the line.  Good to get all those washed and dried and aired.

I had planned on having a stir fry for tea this evening, but G ordered a carvery in.  So that is what we had for a change. I had bought in some reduced Chicken thighs, and some fresh veggies as well as a bag of noodles and a basic stir fry mix, some pineapple, red sweet pepper and other fresh veggies to make this tonight. So tomorrow night's tea is the homemade stir fry.  Lighter simpler food that can just be thrown together quickly and simply.  Followed by some fruit for afters.

I am still battling away in the kitchen but not moving forward very quickly.  Hopefully will get to grips with it this week.

Feeling decidedly off colour so so tired and yet no reason for it all my joints ache - and I feel as though I have a cold, as I am very heady, but not in the normal sense.  Still think it is my body reacting to the booster.

A quiet evening is envisaged with hopefully an early night.

Monday

I crashed last night was asleep before my head touched the pillow and it was the deep deep exhausted sleep.  I had to get up to sort out a Jack Russell and then crashed again.

This morning I have woken up and feel a lot better than I did yesterday which is a relief.  Been pottering, more washing, cooked G's full English Breakfast, I had my cereal with milk and fresh Raspberries which suits me just fine.  I have some Raspberries to pop into a jar with a bottle of Vodka to make Raspberry Vodka for the Pantry stores.  That is therefore a bottle of Lemoncello and a bottle of Raspberry started off for predominantly the Christmas Pantry, but can be used before then in any event if needed.  Will probably make more in any event of both.  So desperate one day to have the growing garden so that I can grow a lot of soft fruit and veggies.  Feeling very hampered at the moment.

So stir fry for tea tonight, and I also have a Lasagna to make for tomorrow night's tea as well.

Well I got tea all sorted out and had put the main part of the meal to the side whilst I cooked the noodles.  I was then called next door as our 84 year old neighbour had fallen and was in a bit of a state.  Ended up calling the ambulance, but that was a performance in itself.  Told them what had happened, and was told that despite the fact she was on the floor in pain, bleeding that the earliest someone would be with us was about 6 hours. Went round to tell them what was going on and when I saw the neighbour decided that was not good enough as she was in a bit of a state.  Called again.  Talk about red tape.  Same questions that really did not have any resonance with what was going on was ridiculous. Got it down to 4 hours. We made about four calls all told.  Her daughter turned up, and took over the phone calls.  Eventually we got to speak to someone who told us what needed to be done and that is when things started moving. Under no circumstances were we allowed to move her although she was desperate to be moved as her foot was going dead and she was uncomfortable on the floor in the position that she had landed in. I ended up holding a pad to her head where she was bleeding and keeping pressure on it.  She started bleeding a lot more which gave us cause for concern.  She was in pain, in shock, going cold, feeling sick, had a big egg on her head was restless.  We ended up putting a quilt and two blankets on her as she was so cold.  Neighbour started to get worse and eventually we were told that someone would be out within the hour.  Paramedics came out and were brilliant with her, straightened her out - there was some screaming, but they felt that she had broken her hip so she was sent to the hospital. I came away just before they moved her to give them some privacy.  At least she is getting sorted and is in good hands now.  I just could not understand the amount of time would have to wait.  Yes I know the services are very busy, but an 84 year old on the floor, going cold, bleeding and having to wait 6 hours.  Her husband could not do anything as he is nearly 90 and not in good health either.  I just hope that they can get her sorted.

In the meantime, back at home, before all this kicked off I had been cooking the stir fry for tea.  Having other more urgent matters on my mind I had forgotten about the noodles for tea.  I burnt them.  G had found them and taken them off the top of the cooker sadly a little too late.  Therefore had to get some more whereupon we set too and had tea.  It went down very nicely after all the shenanigans.

Am off to put my feet up now.  The washing up can wait until tomorrow.

Catch you soon.

  1. A six hour wait for an ambulance - that is disgraceful and absolutely shocking! It is a good thing you were there to help.

    1. Neighbour is badly riddled with arthritis and can hardly move at the best of times. Her husband is not much better, but she is also diabetic. She was desperate for us to move her, but there was no way we could. When we first saw her she had blood on her hands which we thought was just superficial. Turned out when I tried to see what was going on that she had a lump the size of a boiled egg on the top of her forehead which was where the blood was coming from. We were told to compress the blood flow so I sat on the floor with her with my hand firmly on her head as per instructions but she kept trying to move and shake me off. This resulted in it bleeding more than it had been and she also deteriorated a bit in her breathing and clarity. Was going cold and so we covered her with a quilt and a couple of blankets to try and keep her warmer. I appreciate that the services are busy but lot of the time the assistants are reading from a prescribed check list and some of the questions were were being asked were absurd and not appropriate to the situation. It was a couple of the assistants asking questions that were of this ilk that resulted in delay in getting someone to her. I was not the only one getting frustrated with the attitude either. We eventually got it down from 6 hours to 1 hour. I think I made five calls in all and her daughter took over the phone conversations and she was getting as frustrated as I was. I kept talking to her and telling her what was going on and she appeared to calm down quite a bit with me doing this. I sat on the floor with her holding the pad to her head as instructed. The medics when they arrived were very good with her and were able to straighten her out which caused quite a lot of discomfort for her and they were very good with her and took her to the hospital. She has since had surgery on her broken hip from what I understand from what her daughter told me yesterday. I am hoping that she is going to be okay.xx

  2. My friend's Mum had to lie on the utility room floor for over 8 hours before an ambulance came, she is 96. When they turned up they were brilliant, diagnosing a broken hip and shock. But she's back home and still living independently. Xx

    1. Aw bless Gill. Glad to hear that she recovered, however it was/is not an ideal situation as being immobile and shocked can cause other issues. Our neighbour has a rack of auto-immune diseases and has a lot of pain generally from that as well as being diabetic which complicated things a little bit. Fortunately she has now had surgery, for a broken hip and is recovering but leaving them so long its not good. Hugs Tricia x
