Monday time to start Stripping out the Little Room Under the Stairs

Plans for Monday

Well the clearance work is starting tomorrow (Monday) in the Little Room under the stairs. There are no end of things in there besides the preserves that need to come out.  To be truthful I am not quite sure what is in there at the moment everything has to come out in readiness for Tuesday morning first thing.  I am choosing to strip it out so that the Electrician can get on with what he needs to without bothering whether a preserve jar is going to fall on his head.  It will give him space to move.  It will also mean that I will have to get on and start the decorating with items being everywhere else.

A lot of the contents of the cupboard are preserves of different types.  There are also pieces of preserving equipment and lots of other items.  There are plenty of jars, but I have decided that the majority of these are going to have to go into the Stone shed, which is also on the list of things to sort out. I have a lot of jars (not as many as I used to have, but I am slowly starting to replace those that were lost in the fire 5 years on).  I still need a lot more especially as I am bottling a lot more  stuff than I used to.  I am choosing to buy ingredients and turning them into items like sauces, stock, gravy, jams, marmalades, jellies, bottled fruit, bottled meals, bottled soups etc. to try and evade the huge prices that are being charged for some items such as sauces.  Once the Cupboard under the stairs is finished and the Fireside cupboard a lot of preserves will go into the Fireside cupboards as well.  There are also lots of wine bottles - empty for storing my homemade wine in (when I make it).  There are also my wine making supplies in there.  I also have a large wine rack that needs to come out as well.  The plan is for it to go back.

I have been talking about the Stone shed for a while as well.  I have my work cut out as usual.  However, this may be a job for me to start sometime this week as well maybe whilst they are in putting in the new Mains Electric Panel.  Depends on the weather and very much depends on how Missy is. I may have to be with her especially with strangers being in the house.  The cat is going to have to go in her carrier for a few hours as she is a house cat and I suspect that doors will be left open.

We have the new flooring to go in there as well.  That will be put down when I have got the cupboard patched and decorated. It will be the last thing to be done in here. Then G will see to that.  Then I have the job of getting everything back in there that is going in there. It will be so nice to have everything clean, tidy and easy to clean at long last.  It will also be a bonus to be able to find what I am looking for.

Why am I tackling things like this when everything is a mess?  Basically a mess is being caused in any event. I am therefore looking at this as an opportunity to get something done and dusted that needs doing.  If it is in your face you have to deal with it.  I cannot face the task of taking everything out and then having to put everything back again. Then having to take it out when I decide to decorate.  I therefore decided to "kill two birds with one stone" and deal with it whilst it is a mess to create a bigger mess to start with. This work is long overdue and I have been chuntering about it for months.  Time to put my money where my mouth is. Overall though this will save me a lot of lifting and putting strain on my back as well as trying to find spaces to put stuff.

Let the games begin!

Catch you soon.
