Things to achieve week beginning 8 May 2023

I sort of lost momentum with the last list I popped up.  However, have decided to start from scratch again and revamp the list of things to be done. This includes some items that should have been done back then.  It helps keep me motivated and also shows what have managed to achieve in any particular week or indeed on any particular day.

Prior to the new week beginning I have also managed to get a few other projects dealt with, or the start of a bigger project.

  • Re-potted the Ghost Chilli;
  • Pricked out the Roma Tomatoes;
  • Pricked and re-potted both yellow and green Courgettes;
  • Managed to sort and declutter, clean and polish my computer desk, including sorting out all the books, binders etc.  Coming across some interesting recipes in the process and intend to go back and have a look at these.
  • Tidied, washed and polished my sewing desk (my Dad's old writing desk - sounds posh is not, but is a useful formica/laminate type what was a computer desk which he used for his writing).
  • Washed the floor in the computer room (it has laminate flooring for ease of use);
  • Dealt with more washing and drying;
The following are the projects I am concentrating on for this week.  I have tried to put as few as I can on, but some of these are long-winded jobs and in reality are going to take me far longer than I think they will.

Garden Projects

  1. Back Garden: More gardening - whatever small amount I can get carried out always builds up into a larger piece once all the pieces are joined together.
  2. Garden shed needs stripping out so that can get some of the gardening equipment put away.
  3. Greenhouses need to be put up.  Itching to get this done, but can only do what can do.  Rain has stopped play again today and I need a couple of days where I can get stuck in.
  4. All bin bags to date of garden trimmings, weeds, cuttings etc. have been popped into the front garden in readiness for G to take them to the tip.  I dealt with this one yesterday.
  5. Front Garden: Hedge needs trimming and tidying up. Windows need washing, gravel needs clearing, and if possible OH needs to start attacking the Holly tree in the front garden and the big bush.  General sweeping up and tidying up to make it look more presentable.  Probably will take place after have been to the Tip.
  6. More seeds to be sown.
  7. Herbs to be pricked out and potted on, Herb Fennel, Chamomile, Lemon Balm, Parsley, English Thyme, Chives along with courgettes, Cayenne Peppers, Dwarf French beans, Gherkins.  So am going to have my hands full.  May do these of an evening after everything else has been sorted.

House Projects:

If it rains and cannot get into the garden
  1. Kitchen needs to be sorted out as it has got into a mess again.  That will probably take me today.  After that:
  2. Pantry needs:
  3. (a) stripping out:
  4. (b) washed down: and;
  5. (c)then painted.
  6. Pantry can then be re-organised and filled back up. This should help with clearing other storage areas in the dining room.  Pantry was half done before but then got dragged off elsewhere.

Preparation Projects:
  1. Start off a new Sourdough Starter.
Preserving Projects:
  1. Saurkraut.

Cooking Projects:
  1. A little baking is required to fill up the tins. That will happen once the kitchen is sorted out and I can set too.
Eco Items:
  1. Recycle fruit and veg trays to use for seedlings.
  2. Save tea bags for soaking in water and using as "feed" for plants.  I have already been spraying the courgettes and beans with this and they seem to like it.  Full of tannin.

Wild Foraging:

Looking for:
  1. Nettles
  2. Garlic
  3. Hawthorn Flowers (what is known as May Blossom).  Not sure when will get to this because of the weather, however if not this week will definitely be going next week.
So these are the outline plans for this week.  Time will tell whether I get to them or not.  I know some things will overlap, but will get to what I can, even if it means going off piste and at a tangent, to get something out of the way with.  I was always taught that if you deal with the easier things first, it will give you more time to deal with the longer more time consuming things.  So will see what will happen.

Lots to do as usual.  I am also doing some research into some future projects as well, which I had kind of started sometime back, and which I have picked up again just recently.

Right now it is down to weather, time and energy levels.

Have a lovely evening everyone.

Catch you soon.
