Rootling through the new supplies and Kits

Further to my post the other day entitled "Getting ready to complete a crochet project etc.....", I have now received the white wool I ordered to complete a crochet blanket I started a while back in grey, turquoise and white.  All the squares are worked.  I am now going to work a row of white around the squares in order to get them ready for joining together and then adding a border.  Finishing off working the squares will probably be something I will fit in around the embroidery when I have a minimum amount of time.  Crochet grows quickly and I should soon be able to get the white wool worked around all the squares in preparation for blocking and then joining together and then adding a border which will probably be the finishing touch to this blanket, although I am musing whether or not it should be embellished with some white Rose flower heads.  Will see once it is all together - it may just be too much at the end of the day.

I must say that I am very pleased with the wool.  I sourced this from the Wool Warehouse and have been very impressed with the presentation, the pricing and the quickness in delivery.  It is only an acrylic wool, but one that will be easy to wash at the end of the day.  This is not an advertisement for the Wool Warehouse, as I bought the goods myself and is purely my own personal opinion based on my own experience.  I can only speak as I can find.  The Wool Warehouse website is here for those of  you interested.

I for one shall certainly be using them again, and most possibly start stock-piling wool for future crochet projects.  There are a lot of lovely items on the Wish List, although will not be able to make them all I will be able to pick out those I like the most.  The wool ordered has arrived  in a lovely voile type bag threaded with ribbon which I will certainly be able to re-purpose once the blanket has been completed.

I have added a lot of new items to my stash in recent months in readiness for times to come and to make sure that I always have the potential and the materials to create something new.  This includes lots of fabric, kits, gadgets and tools.  Tools predominantly for new things I want to have a go at such as Punch Needle work, Rag Rugging, Crochet Lace, etc.  There are a still a few more things to add from my Wish List; that will be a gradual process.  I will however as I have said have the potential to start new projects and make new things for my home no matter what happens now.  I also have patchwork kits, patchwork that I have started i.e. my Hexie kit and a couple of strip kit quilts, and a couple of Christmas quilts as well.  Oh to have  a big Craft room where I can sit to my heart's content and work with everything to hand and organised.

I have also invested in a beginner's wood burning (Pyrography) set, Candle making moulds, wax and have also extended the equipment I have for making Sourdough by adding in a Rame cutter and a cast iron Dutch oven.  The Dutch oven will certainly be a useful piece of equipment in general cooking in any event.  I also want to have a go at making soap.  I tend to buy a few things every so often and then tick them off my check-list until all the equipment I am after is to hand.  Sometimes this takes a couple of years another time hardly anytime at all.  All depends on the situation at the time.

I am therefore completely invested in trying to get things organised this year on all fronts.  A lot of what I want to try is originally part of a slow living and traditional homemaker's skills in any event - especially the bread making and the soap making and the candle making.  Another reason for having a go at the soap making is that my skin is pretty sensitive in any event and I am all for using gentler products where I can.

I shall have fun in the longer term trying new things, making mistakes (that is how you learn in the longer term) and just playing and practicing to work out my parameters and routine of working for each particular type of project.  Hopefully it will also provide me in the longer term with some useful items for the house such as soap, candles, preserves, wine-making, beer-making etc.  Once I find the sewing machine cable I can get stuck in on all the projects I have on the sewing front of which there are an awful lot as well.  I have needlepoint panels destined to be turned into cushion covers, machine quilts to make, some dressmaking to do, Christmas projects and decorations a whole host of items to complete.  So we will see how things go in due course.

Plenty to keep me going!

Catch you soon.

    1. Hi Catriona, this is the first time I have used them and very impressed. Glad to hear you like them too. Am hoping to do a little bit at a time and get yarns and threads ready in advance to make a particular project. That is the plan. Crochet tends to be my go to craft of choice as I go on automatic pilot with it unless I am learning a new stitch. Take care Tricia xx
