Getting Side-tracked
Happens a lot in my life on many different levels. Normally happens when I plan definite jobs during the week and then end up having to down tools. Today was such a day (Tuesday) despite me being extremely tired. I had planned on spending time in the kitchen. Did not get there.
I mentioned in yesterday's post that we have had a couple of rough nights with Missy which also resulted in a lot of laundry. When you have an elderly dog, more mess happens as they get older and Missy has always been a "muck magnet" at the best of times, but yesterday just got out of hand. We have a couple of rugs on the floor to stop her slipping over and it was necessary them to be washed (which effectively got done the old fashioned way), giving them a good brush down with a good stiff sweeping brush and then using lots of soapy water and a scrubbing brush to give them a good going over. Then swilling down with plenty of clear water. Then using a cloth to ease out all the water from the pile of the rugs. Hard work, but all sorted now. Not the sort of thing one talks about, but it was a real life event which sidetracked me and was necessary to deal with.
Because of that no carpets in the study tonight which has meant Missy has been falling down a bit more often. Hopefully once the rugs are dry tomorrow everything will be moved back in-situ. One of the rugs is currently draped over the gate overnight to dry down. The other one will get hung up tomorrow to do the same. I also ended up going over the rest of the floor with a scrubbing brush and copious amounts of disinfectant and tidied up the study as well. Skirting and lower walls also sorted out. I have to reinstate the study over the weekend, and so will wash the top parts of the walls then. Then get all the bits that were moved out about a month ago back in. G had also edged the flooring in the study as well, so really it is now time to get things sorted. Not the jobs that were planned, but all the same it has got them out of the way with and everything nicely scrubbed down and clean.
A while back I did buy Missy a set of bootees made of neoprene, but for some unknown reason they do not work for her. I even modified them and tailored them for her feet, but they did not stop the falling. The front ones were fine, the back ones her feet were so skinny that the bootees hung off of her. Since putting the rugs in however, they have worked well for her and she has been able for the best part to maintain her balance which has minimised some of the falls.
At the time of writing this she has crashed out in her well padded bed made up of some old blankets, and a small duvet. So it is quite plumped up and comfy. She also has blankets - she has always been a dog who has liked to bury herself in her "blankies". We have proper beds for her as well, but she sprawls well and has plenty of space on this custom made version and seems to prefer it, whereas the bought ones she cannot sprawl as well in even though they are bigger than her. Her comfort is important to us and if it is what it takes i.e. a bit more attention fuss or us doing something that suits her then we do tend to do this for her. They give us so much unconditional love through their times with us and unconditional love she will get back.
At the time of writing this, she is in her bed catching flies, oblivious to anything. Mischief every so often has been going over just to look to see she is okay. Love hate relationship with these two, but I love them both very dearly despite their moments!
Here is hoping that tomorrow I can get back on track again.
Catch you soon.
