Plans for Today and What Transpired

What an accomplishment potting on 45 plants yesterday.  I think I am just cussed.

Plans

Now Today's task is to sort out the second greenhouse and get it all "tickety boo" and sorted out for all these new plants and also the seeds.  Ideally I want to get a load of slabs that I already have under the growing houses so that the pots and grow bags can stand on.  The advantage of having the slabs is that on hot days to cool things down a bit you can water the slabs and the steam rises and keeps the growing house humid.  G will have to help me with that aspect though.  Once that is done and all the plants are back in both houses and sorted I can then start clearing the areas outside of the greenhouses and get them back into growing condition.  I have a lot of plans and want to get as much as I can  done on the food front.  I have both new potatoes and main crop potatoes to get in, which if I get a wriggle on once the greenhouses are done and dusted should not take me too long to do.

I am starting this first thing in the morning whilst the weather is cooler.  It was far too hot yesterday and I was melting by the time I came inside and was thoroughly tired.

Accomplishments

This is the second greenhouse/growing house before being overhauled:

Work in Progress

After some of the Plants went back in but not all of them.  This second greenhouse/growing house is going to be used for the chillies, sweet peppers, courgettes (for now) and cucumber. I ended  up putting a load of the plants into the second greenhouse after I had finished it, for the simple reason I decided to put the slabs down in the second one as well.  Not perfect  but it means if it is hot I can water the slabs and the humidity will be good in the greenhouse.  A lot tidier too in both houses.

The tidied second greenhouse/growing house which had already been stripped of weeds and given a good clear out was also tackled.  The aim was slabbing the floor which I have now achieved.  A very hot day here again, but satisfying to get this done.  Should make my life a lot easier.

The First Greenhouse bottomed out ready for the slabs.

Re-filled with the slabs down.

The Second Greenhouse completed

I have also received confirmation that my recent order from the Organic Gardening catalogue i.e. some Strawberries is also due to land by my birthday on 3rd May.  Therefore looks as though I am going to be even busier.  However I do have plans for the Strawberries to go into tubs as well as some hanging baskets.  I have found in the past that they do well in the hanging baskets.  The ones that I potted up the other day showed no signs of life but they are starting to develop leaves.  The Strawberry plants have now arrived and that is another job I have on the list for tomorrow.  There are about 40 plants.

I do now have to tackle alongside the front of the greenhouse and also down the side of the greenhouse.  It is full of weeds near the water barrel.  Not going to be easy getting these out. Alongside the water barrel there used to three mini growing houses.  Unfortunately one of them has died!  That leaves me with two usable ones for storing plant pots, trays etc. on.  I would like another  couple of these growing houses as they are ideal for seeds.  So will see how we go on this.  It will be good to get this little section sorted out.  I have two planters alongside the greenhouse which needs new compost.  Will do this and then get something planted in it, probably some Spinach.

I started working on the side of the greenhouse last night.  I got a little bit cleared, well as much as I could for now.  I do have a big job ahead in that once I have located all the pots they will all need washing and re-stacking on the two growing houses. I also ended up going and clearing some rubbish off the patio stones.  In retrospect I might get this cleared first so that we can level up the flags here and then get the patio table and chairs on there and out of the way with.  I can then concentrate on clearing the side border near the next door neighbour and possibly getting some plants or seeds in here.  It certainly needs weeding.  Then I can clear the top border in front of the Rhubarb and get the Asparagus bed in.  There is a lot to do whatever in any event.

It looks as though it is going to be another early morning and a long day.  Weather is supposed to be a little cooler tomorrow which should make it easier to work.  At least in my travels I managed to find more saucers for some of the herbs that I potted up.  Need to get a few more and that should complete all the pots in both greenhouses which will be an achievement in itself.

Something that cheered me  up today was whilst I was working in the greenhouse, I was joined by a Robin who had come in to get the bugs etc I had disturbed.  I was literally within a foot of him and he was not at all phased, just carried on what he was doing.  They say that when Robins are near loved ones are near.  It is a lovely thought, especially with my birthday looming tomorrow.  We will skip that.  Sometimes it is the simplest of things that bring the most pleasure.

Tea tonight is a Ham/Beef salad with cheesy coleslaw, cheese, salad leaves, etc.  Did not want too much and this very much fits the bill.  Been a bit off my food for the last week or so.

I have also got the washing machine on again.  It threw a wobbler the other night and would not work, but have got it going again and so am wading through the washing pile with a vengeance, especially if I can get it dried outside.

So from a very busy housewife here in Peterborough.  Hope you have a lovely evening.  I am going to sit down I think I have earned it.  I hope I sleep well.

Catch you soon.
