Sunday

I have woken up to grey skies and it is very chilly.  Jumper weather again to start with at least.

My Plans for the Day

Today I am working where I need to although it will predominantly be the bathroom, kitchen and dining room areas that will be addressed.  I am working between the three rooms as a precursor to working each room individually.

At the moment I have various boxes available for packing and there are a lot of items that need re-packing some of which because their original boxes are not as sturdy.  These will then go into the back bedroom.

I had planned on doing some gardening today namely some digging but that will have to wait until another day as I need to get my plants potted on first.

There should be a delivery of compost either on Tuesday or Wednesday of this week which will mean that I should be able to get my Courgettes into planters and re-pot all my tomatoes which will free up a lot of space in the greenhouse. They have certainly grown an awful lot since being received as have the tomato plants, Marigolds and Herbs.

I have Cottagers Kale, Sweet Peppers (various), Chillies (various), Figs, Chamomile, Lemon Balm, to pot up, plus my mint cuttings that I took a couple of weeks ago which have struck.  I also have more runner beans to sow (they are currently soaking).  I also need to check on the bean plants sown the other week.

Therefore the way I am working is multi-layered, messy but it helps ease things along on several levels.

G is fishing again tomorrow and because of the Missy issue I will therefore be working in there again, so it makes sense to do a fair amount of preparation in getting stuff sorted out.

Fortunately with G sorting the washing machine yesterday I have managed to get quite a bit of washing done and out on the line and all dried.  There is still more to be done, but all the clothing is nearly sorted and then it is back to the linens that have been in storage.

Where I started

As it was chilly outside, and to allow the day to warm up a little before I opened the greenhouses, I decided to start working on bringing in the washing left overnight, putting out a new batch of washed clothes and putting on another wash.  This will be going on in the background all day long, not just for today, but for a few days.

I then stopped for breakfast, G had been asleep whilst I had got up earlier and when he did wake, I cooked a proper fried breakfast for him.  I had a Croissant and a hot cup of tea.

Work then started again.

I started in the bathroom, getting rid of the items that had been popped in there for hanging up once the main bathroom has been painted out.  There are several sea themed pieces and ornaments.  They are to be packed into a box and put upstairs in the back room for the time being.  Going have to address the rest of the bathroom bit by bit.  At least i am getting some stuff done.

Once the bathroom has been painted out and the flooring done some of them may well get hung up.

So a messy way of working, but it does eventually get things done and then things come together all of a sudden.

Update

G is not now fishing as the lakes where he goes are suffering from oxygen deprivation, and the fish are starting to spawn.  Apparently there is also a problem with Blue Algae.  It looks as though they will be shut down for a week.  G I think will be home.  Never mind everything planned, will all have a purpose.

Perhaps we can go to the tip instead.  We should have gone the other day, but did not get there.  We had therefore planned for Tuesday because of G's fishing trip.  However, this may work out better than we had planned.  We also need to address the hedge in the front garden and get the front garden all tidied out after the rubbish has been taken to the tip.  On top of that we also have the Bay tree to trim in the back garden.  It has gone wild again.  I shall take the opportunity of drying more Bay leaves when it gets its haircut.  I also have the Grape vine to trim (wrong time I know) but it needs stringing in a bit as well.  That will take a little time.  Still need to get to the border to weed it.

As I got stymied a bit with the bathroom.  I then downed tools and went into potting mode with the plants received the other day.  I have quite enjoyed the afternoon, quietly and methodically working away at sorting at least half of the plants that came the other day.  I managed to get the Cottager's Kale, All the Chillies and the Sweet Peppers potted up.  Also my Garden Mint cuttings I took the other week had many roots and were ready for potting up.  I have the Lemon Balm, Chamomile, two Fig trees and the Straw Flowers to pot up tomorrow.  I also found a few more Runner Bean seeds do not know what variety as they had come out of the packet and were nowhere near it.  I suspect they are Scarlet Emperor as it is one of the main beans I have bought in the past.  The odd beans I have found and planted if they take, will be used in a couple of Planters each and a tee pee added for them to run up. The Runner beans I planted the other week are not showing yet!  I think they have taken a detour to Australia.  If they take, they take and if not well at least I can plant some more. Both greenhouses are now full.  Potting compost should be arriving either Tuesday or Wednesday this week and I will then be able to get on with the planters for the different Courgettes which can then go out.  I also want to start off some hanging baskets and floral planters for the back garden.

As I was clearing up I went into the passage to see if the weeds had been killed off that I poured boiling water on the other evening.  I believe it may have an advantage, and do the job, but I am not totally convinced at the moment.  Will try again somewhere else.  There are plenty of edges to have a go at.  In any event I got the Hoe out, and then totally swept the passage and de-webbed it on the ceiling which I tend to do every so often. I shall probably disinfect it out tomorrow as well.  There is a reason for this as unfortunately people waiting at the bus stop tend to use the passages for their own convenience which is not very pleasant.  I dose with Dettol every so often. Therefore slowly working my way to the front of the house.  I have in any event found the hedge-trimmer to do the hedge with.  Then the windows will need cleaning and no doubt more spider's webs to deal with.

I shall saturate the area in front of the greenhouse again tomorrow.  It has loosened things up a bit, but I will give it another dousing tomorrow and probably the old Herb border again as well.  I do not have a hose pipe or indeed a watering can.  I use a large two litre jug for this purpose at the moment. Time consuming but a means to an end. Maybe Tuesday will then get to the digging in front of the greenhouse done.

In-between everything else, I will of course be doing bits in the house between the rooms as usual.  Looks as though it is going to be early starts and late nights all this week with hopefully some craft work of an evening thrown in.

I am now sat down, slightly ream-crackered, and contemplating doing a little crochet tonight.  Perhaps I will get back to the cross stitch tomorrow.  Hopefully will get an earlier night tonight, as I am tired.  I have been pushing myself that bit more and to tell the truth I feel better for it.  I have to be careful though as I do not want to push things too far.

Have a lovely evening everyone.

Catch you soon.

  1. So many plants - it sounds as though you have your own market garden out there! :-) You will have a lot of preserving to look forward to in the coming months.

We've had a few days in the high 20's C - too hot fro this time of year but today we are back to about 17C which is lovely - and the sun has come out after a few days of rain and even a couple of thunderstorms! I should be out enjoying it but got started on a few things in the apt. and didn't want to leave. I will get out tomorrow as it is a holiday Monday and the weather is supposed to be quite pleasant.

I've inventoried my pantry as I want to fill any gaps that I can. Prices are expected to rise again due to our counter tariffs against the US - anything coming from them will go up - and we are already dealing with tariffs against China - people are not happy. I also moved a few items into the kitchen that need to be used sooner rather than later so that nothing goes to waste. I've rearranged my baking cupboard as well - always looking to make things more visible and accessible. I don't really bake over the Summer but will restock a few items here and there. It is very hot and humid here in the Summer so like to do a restock in September so that things are "fresh" for Fall/Winter baking.

I cooked a lamb roast - will enjoy it again today and I've packaged up 5 servings for the freezer. I also cooked a batch of onions, peppers and mushrooms and packaged up a few servings for the freezer. I had a lot of peppers that needed to be processed so a whole tray's worth were washed, sliced and frozen - and now packaged up for later use. This morning I decided to chop up a couple of pears that just would not ripen, added a couple of slightly wrinkly apples and made a lovely compote that will go over my yogurt for breakfast - waste not/want not!

I hope that you get to relax with some of your craft work this week - don't overdo things in the garden.
