Ditto - Rain Halted Play

Plans for today just did not happen same as yesterday, different reasons.  Rain Halted Play and really scuppered the gardening plans.

Therefore assessing weather forecast as it stood at present and establishing that in view of the fact that there is quite a bit of wet weather to come, tomorrow is looking exceedingly like the best day to finish off the front garden and get rid of all the rubbish.  Looks at the moment as though this is going to be a concerted effort in order to get things back on track.  There is a lot of rubbish to go to the Tip as well at least three runs.

As essentially I have been forced into a house day today, I have done a little more work on re-arranging boxes in the back bedroom.  This evening I intend to do a little more sorting and hopefully will free up some more space as a result.  This is needed to move items that are currently downstairs slowly into the designated storage room for the house which is our back bedroom.

As I have mentioned before, I am working on the bathroom a bit at a time to clear that.  I have a lot of work to do still, but once this room is cleared G can then decorate and get new flooring down.  However, there is a lot of stuff that needs to go out of the bathroom and in the first instance to go into the dining room.  It will then be sorted from there and put up into the back bedroom.  It is literally a process, but at least the job is moving forward a little at the time and is not stagnant per se.

Unfortunately we are having to sort other things out in-between because of available space and so we are having to move one step forward two steps back until things get sorted and freed up and packaged a bit better than they are.  Also items are being thinned out and if no longer required re-directed to the CS and some other items that I feel I no longer need will be sold.

Today I have managed to have a really good go at getting similar sized boxes and contents stacked together. Most of the boxes are relatively heavy and I am having to assess whether a box goes on the floor or is better stacked higher up because it is lighter. I was doing well but then I had a cave in which I needed to address and dig myself out of.  Just a slip with stuff sliding to the floor, but I could not get through to the computer room without clearing it. Now that was not in the Itinerary. This bit was not anticipated, but I supposed it was always a possibility and I was going to get on in the bathroom again.  I have therefore been in the back bedroom for the best part of the day.

Some of the boxes that I had moved were missing their lids but I have found some downstairs that will suit the ones missing their lids very nicely.  Another bonus (they were in the bathroom), so a win-win.

I assume I will be in the back bedroom for some time tomorrow although that will be later in the day.   The reason being that we have a front garden to complete and weather wise it would appear that tomorrow is the best day to deal with this. G has to finish topping the privet and needs to also re-shape the Cotoneaster.  I then need to bag all the cut foliage and leaves and bag them up to join the rest of the bags in the front garden, sweep the paths and tidy them up.

A trip to the Tip is then on the cards.

The Windows will then get a good scrub as will the Windowsill (all part of the front garden clean up).

The Bay tree in the back garden then needs tackling and pruning.  I need to sort out the branches that I want to retain to dry the leaves and then that will need to go down to the Tip.  It may be that these will have to be taken another day to the Tip, however, I hope not as it would be good to get them all out of the way with tomorrow.

A lot of work going on but little to show for it at the moment.

In any event it will be good to get that front garden done and dusted so that I can for the best part forget about it, apart from whether or not I add any hanging baskets and planters.  The Jury is still out on that one.  Therefore I am hoping for an early start tomorrow in order that I can get as much done as I can and also clear the back bedroom that bit more.

In the removal of boxes and the landslide I came across a stack of books that I have not had access too for sometime.  Of course, I took some time out to go through them to see if any of them could go to the Charity shop.  From this little batch they are all books that I use/will use and so they will remain, unless I change my mind later in the day.

I have a small wardrobe next to the containers I have stacked today, which is full of books stacked top to bottom.  I am hoping to go through these tomorrow when I start back in the bedroom and sift through them to see if there are any that can go to the Charity Shop. Will see what happens.  Fingers crossed can get to it.  I will then re-utilise the wardrobe for storage of  a load of pottery and China items which are very fragile. This includes my China Tea Service and Dinner Service which is Colclough Enchantment:  See picture below:

I have also chucked out some items that I know that I will not use.  All the items or rubbish chucked has been sorted out into types, like card and paper or recyclables etc.

One thing that was very pleasing though, was that a little while back I bought a very small sewing table.  I think it is a utility piece very plain and very simple. I think I only paid £5.  It will be ideal for either embroidery or beadwork. The table itself was rescued a few weeks ago but I noted that the drawer had somehow or other gone missing.  I found that drawer today which means it is now intact which is a relief.  At some point I will now be able to restore this piece and put it into use.  It will be a good companion piece for my Great Aunty Ivy's Needlework box which will need a full restoration from a Restorer at some point.  I will have to save up for that though as it has a silk lining that needs re-attaching and some of the veneer on the table top has gone missing.  I might even get the pair done together.

I am also finding my picture frames.  A lot of them are from Charity shops which are going to be re-purposed for some embroidery pieces that I have to display.  I have a pile of them and it would be nice to get them all sorted and re-framed and onto the walls out of the way.  A lot of the pieces are not in frames at the moment. There is some seriously stunning work that I have rescued over a period of time.

Some of the frames are going to need a little TLC.  The majority of them are pine and some have marks and scratches on them and I may well get a gel pine stain for using on them to bring back the finish to them.

I also am making up a box for UFO projects including embroidery, needlepoint and cross stitch.  Some of these are on frames and so storing them as they are in a larger box will help protect them and save any re-stringing.

Lots going on - movement - no major movement, but it will all add up at the end of the day.  Hopefully the garden will be concluded tomorrow and I can get the books sorted out and to the Charity Shop.  The China and other pottery bits are currently in the dining room, so moving bits strategically is helping to create space elsewhere in the rest of the house.  In the back bedroom though we are having to be really organised so that the items are safely stored and I can find them at the end of the day should I need them.

Catch you soon.

  1. It is great that you are able to pivot whenever the weather does not cooperate. I am trying to look at things the same way. On rainy days or days that are simply too hot - feels like 35C today and haze from the forest fires out west - those are work indoors days. When I get in from the office today I need to tidy away a lot of things that have ended up all over the dining table and my chaise - things will look a lot tidier once that is finished!

It will be wonderful for you once you can display all your lovely pieces of china where you can see them.
