Kitchen - Carry On

Wednesday night I was going into the kitchen again, however real life had different plans for me.  When I checked the plants in the garden I realised that they needed the water this evening, and so I got stuck in and got everything watered up.

I also hoed down one side of the patio and I intend to put some stone chippings down that side to stop the weeds coming through and then put some planters on there.

Plans for Thursday

I plan today to weed the other side and re-arrange the plants, and then tidy the area by the bathroom wall up as well.  So will see what happens.  Trying to do a bit each day on the garden in bite sized chunks should make it a bit more manageable.

Also continuing on with the washing as we have rain forecast quite a bit in the coming days and I want to get as much as I can out of the way with.

I need to go and buy Soap-powder, stone chippings, fabric conditioner from Home Bargains and a few other bits and bobs.  Whether that will happen today or not is another matter.  It will certainly happen in the next few days.

Plans for Friday and Future Plans

Back in the kitchen.  Going to be an early start and a late finish  I have a lot to do.  Will probably go into Saturday too.  Will therefore update on what I actually achieved today tomorrow!

No gardening until the bulk of the kitchen is achieved apart from watering up.

Had to go out for cleaning stuff.  I always add an oxygen powder as a top up to the soap powder in my washing machine especially when dealing with lighter colours and whites.  I had run out of the powder  which is also good for cleaning the loo, and other cleaning projects and it works very well.  Cleans toilet brushes up beautifully as well.  All you do is add some powder and boiling water and let it soak.  Extremely effective cleaner.  There were a few other things on the cleaning front that were needed and I have also picked up some of the new probiotic cleaner from CIF to try that out.  There were three scents available. Lavender, Lime and ....... so we shall see how we get on with them.

Whilst instore I noticed that Home Bargains had a lot of plants in.  I am going back on Tuesday to spend some monies from lottery wins and scratch-cards.  Flowers please me and as I have said before I want to create a small flower garden next year.  I am restricted on space and I tend to go a little OTT a lot of the time with my gardening which happens whenever I decide to garden; I am just not minimalist - just not in my nature. One of my positive failings!

For the cutting garden for next year, I am thinking Dahlias and Chrysanthemums as two necessary cutting flowers to have. These I remember from when I was a child and used to go and stay with my Aunty Rene and also my Nan.  Both had proper flower gardens, not small either quite extensive and both kept the house filled throughout the year with the blooms produced.  I remember going to her Kitchen garden where the Cutting Flower garden was situated (originally in Wellingore Hall's Victorian walled kitchen garden) with my Aunty in High Summer, to collect flowers and then take them to her mother's grave. This was the grave of (my Great Aunt on my Nan's side; as my Nan and her Mum were sisters and technically she is my second cousin but out of respect we referred to her as Aunty). Will see what else can add to the list as I go along.  Maybe Gladioli.  Will see. I am also going to look at growing a few bulbs as well.

I really have got into the gardening this year.  Hard work, but it has given me a lot of peace, calm and pleasure and grounded and centred me in the process.  I needed the grounding and the centring which in turn heals you. I like the creativity of gardening and what you can do with the plants.

There were a few nice things in Home Bargains that I have been waiting on, and hopefully if they still have what I am after in store on Tuesday; it should tidy up the old Herb Garden strip and give a bit more colour.  Fingers crossed it pans out well.  If they are still there on Tuesday then it was meant to be.

I am also after some window boxes for the front of the house and for the old Herb Garden where the Grape Vine now predominantly grows.  We have grapes forming already.

Right off to cook a tray bake.

Hope you all have a lovely evening.  Temperature has been in the 30's here today; supposed to be more comfortable tomorrow.  Will see what happens.

Catch you soon.

  1. It's been very muggy here in Yorkshire. We did have a rain shower, but that just seemed to make it worse.
I am not a minimalist either. Life is too short not to have things around you that bring you joy, if at all possible. I have self-seeded marjoram all over the place in my garden at the moment. I was intending to weed most of it out, but I walked outside the other morning to find it swarming with happy bees and hoverflies. I couldn't touch it after that, at least not until the Autumn when I will attempt to contain it to the areas where I want it.

  2. Very muggy here too and have been weeding the borders in the hope of rain. Also doing some knitting to stay out of the heat. Catriona
