Not much of a Post today

I overslept this morning and have not got anything done.  A little Jack Russell got into a two and eight and over-heated and have had to cool her down.

I did not get to Home Bargains.   I went into town and went to  B & M.  Shout out for Suet Ladies.  Morrisons charge £3 for Atora, Waitrose are about £2.30 and B & M are charging £1.99.  I have come home with a couple of boxes, but intend to get some more.  Thinking Christmas Puddings, Homemade Mincemeat, Stews, Dumplings, Feeding the Birds, so want to have a decent stock of items in by the time the nights are dark.  I shall have a better look around B & M another day. There are quite a lot of things that will be needed in due course and I am obtaining them in my usual fashion a little bit at a time. I did come back with some plaster repair for the bathroom though as some of the plaster has blown in places and needs patching up and then painting.  I also bought some caulking as well. I also bought six storage jars for my Loose leaf tea bought at Sostrene Grene.

I nipped into Primark to see if they had anything for their autumn collection in store.  Hardly anything apart from some decorated candles and a Wreath and two candle Wreaths which I have in any event. Very disappointing not that Primark have a very big home section in their store in Peterborough.

I did go into Sostrene Grene.  This store is dangerous where I am concerned.  I came away with some 500ml jars x 8 (going to be used for the Gooseberries), two Sugar shakers, some measuring cups, crochet yarn in an orange and a purpley brown (autumn project to be undertaken), Paprika, Butter Seasoning, Mixed Peppercorns and some Thyme.  I also came away with some of their loose tea which is flavoured with lots of different things.  At the time of writing this have forgotten their names but they smell amazing.  I shall be going back down there to see if I can name them and probably get a few more variations as well.  I also bought a ball tea infuser to use with the loose leaf tea.  There was lots more I could have come away with.  Hopefully these items will still be available next month.  I have my eye on some of their collapsible boxes for storing stuff in the Pantry.  I am also hanging my nose over a few Capiz style candle holders. as well as two ceramic pedestal dishes which could be quite nice used as candle holders.  They had lots of goodies in store.

I am also eating the freezer down at the moment and will soon start to feed it again with fresh items. I tend to keep more meat in than anything else, but I do keep some veg in for when times are a little strapped on cash, so that ostensibly we can have a meal from the Freezer at those times and at any other time.  I try and have at least a couple of meals in different areas of food storage for this purpose.  You need to eat throughout the month, but the pennies often run out before month end.  It is also one of the reasons I go to the trouble of cooking a larger piece of meat than we need and then slice the meat and soak it in gravy then freeze.  Just need the veggies and yet again you have another good meal or meals to hand.  You always have the option of cooking extra veggies at the time the meal is prepped, and then freezing as a whole meal that can be pinged in the Microwave.

On the way back home I went to Waitrose.  I have bought home 8 cartons of Gooseberries, a tray of Strawberries, a lot of Bramley cooking apples, some double cream, four Basil plants (going to be planted in with the Tomatoes), two Thyme plants, and 2 cartons of Clementine juice, either to be drunk or to make some Clementine Curd from.

I have spoken with the GP Surgery.  There are some concerns from what I understand about my Electrolyte levels being slightly unstable.  The GP is going to speak to me about matters next Wednesday.  In the interim I have to undergo more testing (monitoring on the bloods front - I don't know at present for sure until I have spoken to GP, but that is what it strikes me as at present. Probably trying to get a mean level).  I have strict instructions to drink a scuttle full of water before going for my appointment at 11:07am tomorrow, complete with the bruises from last week! There will then be another round of testing in about five to six weeks which I think takes us to the middle of August.  So we shall see what happens between then and now.  At least I am being taken care of.

Some more growing bags also arrived today.  I am also waiting for a delivery of pots via Temu, a Cherry stoner, some Nasturtium seeds, fresh Yeast 1kg block, the light fitting that I ordered and that should be it.  Although I do need to order a fly screen for the back door.  The insects have been a bit rife this year. It would be good to be able to open the back door and let fresh air in rather than blooming flies.  Been a problem with next door and several houses down the street.

Am going to do some pottering tonight, not that I feel like it, but something has to be done.

Wishing you all a lovely evening.

Catch you soon.

  1. I hope that all the blood tests reveal what the Dr wants to know and your treatment can be tailored to your needs. Sounds like you had a very satisfying spending spree in your favourite shop :)

    1. Morning BB, So do I. I have said that I have felt off colour for ages, but could not put my finger on what the actual issue is. Potentially from what I have read from the little bit of information that the gentleman I spoke to gave me, it could be dehydration, especially with the horrible cramps I have been getting, the fatigue and tiredness could be down to a vitamin/mineral deficiency (electrolytes) but it is establishing which one. It could be down to lack of Magnesium, Sodium etc. I am on Vitamin D3 twice a day and I assumed that this pill was covering all the needs and it may be. My lovely Mum had to take all sorts as supplements. She had to have special dispensation for Vitamin D injections each day which she gave herself. She hated them as apparently they were painful. I am hopeful this will be a quick fix. I am under orders to drink more water, but am finding it difficult some days. However we will see what the GP says and what my options are. I nursed my Mum on and off since the age of 15. A lot happened to her, so I am far more aware of some of the things involved than most having seen it first hand. Auto immune disease is a horrible thing and affects lots of people in different ways. My brother also has it and on Mum's side there are cousins who have auto-immune disease/issues as well. (Mum was one of 10 children and I have an awful lot of cousins). A lot of it down to a wonky gene, but it comes out differently in every one of us which complicates things. Sostrene Grene is a lovely shop that has lots of useful things in it. They also have lots of crafting stuff at very good and reasonable prices. The materials with lots of ideas. I think you would love it. They are online, but some things you can get in the shop only. Yesterday was predominantly some new jars for preserving the Gooseberries I got for G and the loose leaf different teas which you fill a little brown paper bag to the top for £1.70. Lots of different variations they smell absolutely gorgeous (I cannot remember the names or what is in them but will remember to do so when I go again). I am now working my way through them. Sostrene Grene opened last year just before Christmas and they had lots of lovely Christmas decorations and baubles, that sort of thing. They are online if you want to take a look at some of the items they are producing. Only thing is if you are ordering in small quantities and want more try and do it straight away as they are always replacing their lines. Am currently trying to drink a load of water before my blood test at 11:00am this morning. It will resolve itself one way or another. They will be calling me Mrs Pincushion next. Cest la Vie! Take care Tricia x

  2. The flies have been awful here too. The only fly screens I could find were either for outward opening doors or attached onto the frame with velcro. I don't particularly want to stick stuff onto the plastic frame and think it would need replacing every year, so it's back to the drawing board.

    1. I have a wooden doorframe and was looking at the fly screens on Temu as they do not cost too much. Not sure they would work, but do not want to pay too much but the flies have been a nuisance. Next door neighbour has a new back door and they have gone for a magnetic one which seems to be doing the job, seems to be holding and means he can have his backdoor open to let in the breeze. So a little more research on my part is needed I think also. Hope you are okay. Think you may be right about the water and dehydration thoughxxx

  3. Aw, poor Jack Russell! Looks like you had quite the eventful day, even if it wasn't the "Home Bargains" one you planned. Good for you stocking up on suet at B&M, that's a brilliant tip! And Sostrene Grene always seems to have the best stuff – totally get why you went a bit wild in there! Hope your GP appointment goes well tomorrow.
