More Plants and starting on the garden
Last week I ordered some Strawberries together with a selection of mixed annuals which hopefully will be with me shortly. I lost the Strawberries last year so need to replace them. I am buying bare rooted again (30 plants) over the seasons and hope that I have more success with them this year. Put it this way it will not be for the lack of trying. I have purchased these from Sutton Seeds.
That is another couple of items off the list.
I also am after Hydrangeas also for planters in the garden. Will keep my eyes out for those. I do not intend to pay through the nose for them.
I have also ordered in some Blueberry plants (six to be precise) and also some trailing Fuschias for my hanging baskets. These are coming from Thompson and Morgan.
G has been talking about going fishing tomorrow - not sure if he will actually go or not. Failing him not going tomorrow (weather is supposed to be good) he is definitely going on Sunday coming (Easter Sunday) as he is booked in to fish a match. To be honest, I like a bit of space to get on with things whilst he is out of the way and I have a few things planned moving forward. If he goes tomorrow I intend to get out into the garden for a little while to start tidying up and giving some of the plants that are showing some TLC. I have been out a little in the fresh air this afternoon dealing with some recycling but more on that on another post.
I have been browsing on other plant and seed sites for actual plants; whether that turns into some more plants being bought remains to be seen. I want to get out into the garden and to get sorting it before I purchase too many more.
I do however require a new kneeler for the garden, some shelves for the greenhouses on which to stack seedlings and a couple of growing houses to house seedlings which have been planted on. I also need a watering hose and a wand (for hanging baskets). That is a must have for this year, as I cannot lug watering cans around like I did last year. It is my birthday in the not too distant future, and I may ask for some plants for my birthday.
Many years ago I used to have a big old Whisky cask which had been turned into a Strawberry Barrel. I had that Barrell for many years and not only my Strawberries but my French Tarragon Plant (which grew in the top) were quite happy there. One day I would love to have a couple of these Barrels again. Prices are a little exorbitant at the moment and in reality it may never happen again. It was however a beautiful way to grow my Strawberries (and my French Tarragon).
I have also found in the garden a Chamomile plant which I had not noticed. It was hidden in its pot; it was only when I started sorting some pots out that I found it. Am pleased about this. The Figs (Brown Turkey) x 2 are also shooting well. I am looking to add another couple of Figs this year and maybe a couple of other varieties. I am also after some Chaenomeles (Japonica), a couple of Apothecary Roses, some different grape vines, Tayberry, Loganberry and Blackberry plants. I am shopping around a bit though and trying to take advantage of offers when I come across them.
If I can get out in the garden tomorrow I will clear one of the greenhouses and I will start sowing some seeds as I really need to get a bit of a shuffle on with the seeds. If I can get a wriggle on tomorrow, I will then try and sow a few seeds each day until I am up to speed. There is a lot to do, but then there is always a lot to do here. Tis just the depth that varies.
Well here we go again, I have Spring Fever, especially now we have the lighter nights, which means I can work outside a little bit longer rather than being in the house all the time, which tends to happen in the winter months.
Hope everyone is keeping well and sane with all the turbulence in the World at the moment.
Keep safe.
Catch you soon.
