Proper tinned Sterilised Cream - where did it go - Can you still get it - Updated
For some unknown reason this well and much loved Pantry staple disappeared from the Nestle products, along with Fussells Cream quite a while ago. Well certainly in this country i.e. the UK. Although it appears to be still available in the States and Canada. The last time I managed to buy any of the Nestle cream was from my local Asian shop and I managed to get it a couple of times and that was it. Which set me thinking, a proper Asian Food shop selling Nestle cream is absolutely worth its salt! Despite me asking since they have been unable to locate it. I use my local Asian shop a lot and so I decided to do a little further prowling on the Internet.
I had been doing a bit of roaming on the Internet in any event for a while without success. However at long last I think I have potentially found a replacement for this. I loved tinned cream especially with tinned fruit as part of our Sunday afternoon tea when growing up. I have therefore made a purchase and I will try it out and then report at a later date. Fingers crossed and toes plaited. I hope so.
The product I have bought in is called Puck Cream and is produced by Arla. I have gone through the Ebay shop and I have ordered in 8 cans of this cream which will be about £13.99 with free postage. It has worked out cheaper doing it this way. However it will be used up no matter what. However the reviews are very positive and it seems to be being purchased for exactly the same reasons I want it for. As I have said, I have ordered in 8 tins, which if we have a tin every week this totals 8 weeks i.e. 2 months supply. However in reality it is probably likely to be every other week which will extend the supply just a little further.
The link is here:
I had originally seen another business provide 12 cans for £20.49 with postage which worked out at £24 for 12 tins which worked out at £2 per tin. When I went to place an order they were no longer available on Ebay. When I have received and I have tried the cream, I will come back and update this post.
Might or might not be the answer to a Golden Oldie's prayer!
What do you think!
Catch you soon.

A little update on the Puck tinned cream. It is not exactly as the Nestle or Fussells one, but it is not bad at all. I always add a sprinkling of sugar to the tin before stirring it and then dishing it up with fruit. Very pleased with this and yes, I will be making another purchase.
Catch you soon.

When I was a child my aunts would come to visit every other Saturday. We nearly always had tinned salmon sandwiches followed by some variety of tinned fruit with either Nestle's cream or condensed milk. My Mum always had a stock of them in the cupboard. I haven't thought about that for years!
ReplyDeleteHi Tracy, we had similar teas as well. I did love the cream especially with a little extra sugar added in. I am waiting on delivery possibly tomorrow or Wednesday. Will let know whether it is a good alternative or better. If I like it I may also buy in another tray next month to ensure future supplies. xxx
