Lady that lunches

I had intended posting this post at tea time 6:00pm but the computer was not playing ball again and I have only just managed to get on line.  Well as long as I can get on at some time.   I have done absolutely nothing at all again today apart from meet up with a very good friend for lunch and we put the world to rights between us.  I took with me today a small lap quilt that I had purchased via ebay and which I was very disappointed about.  Even though I am only a novice at patchwork, I realised that the quilt had not been stitched in the ditch, the binding was very poor with the ends not having been tidied off and the cotton binding was of a poor quality you could see through it. Proper wadding had not been used and to back it a Broderie-Anglais pre-quilted fabric had been used. The quilt had also not been pressed in the direction of the dark.  I hate criticising other peoples work but I was disappointed to say the least.  Never mind will use it a...

Lasagna for tea

Image
OH is getting spoilt with me being home in that most nights he is getting a home cooked meal of one sort or another. This evening it was home made Lasagna. I served it with cut and come again mixed lettuce from out of the garden that I have grown in small seed trays.  The salad was fresh, tasty, lifted the lasagna and best of all there was no waste at all as I only cut enough for our immediate use.  Result from another thing I have grown.   Normally, OH is the master at making Lasagna and it is the one dish I have always left for him to do. So his standard is quite high when making this, but he said I did more than okay and is going to take some of it in to eat at work tomorrow.  Well I thought it was tasty but I am biased, just one or two more tweaks and it should be more than okay.  I never use mozzarella when making Lasagna and neither does OH.  I use a nice strong stinky cheddar and it works. I am now more than a little stuffed...

Working in the Garden Part One

Image
Since I have been home I have been working on and off in the garden trying to do a bit here and there and get the basics in hand in readiness for next year (needs doing whether here or not) so I am just going for it. This is what I have started off with not a pretty sight.  Because it has been cold I was not able to get out and get stuck in earlier in the year the garden has ended up like a jungle again. When it was warm enough for me and when I was able to move free of pain I ended up having a massive session of weeding so part of the issues above have already been addressed and solved although still have a way to go.  The jungle was initially up to the rear of the shed.  However I have managed to remove a good quarter of the weeds etc by  hand weeding for a few hours on the trot.  It still needs digging over and there are lots of brambles which have self-seeded.  OH will have to help me get them out.  The part I have cleared curr...

The Rocking Chair

Image
Has arrived and here it is. It is in much better nick than I thought it was and will fit in very nicely with everything else I have.  Not bad for £15. Here it is: Once a little TLC and elbow grease has been extended it will be better than new and ready for use.  It is comfortable to sit in.  Highly chuffed with this. Catch you later on. Pattypan x

What a morning

I was waiting for my rocking chair to arrive and so I did a little clearing around the back door and then started to cut the hedge - we have a privet hedge in the front garden that has gone a bit wild of late.  We have an electric hedge cutter but I cannot hold it for long and so I prefer to cut the hedge with clippers.  I had not long started that when the Charity shop tried to deliver me a table and chairs.  Slightly puzzled as mine was the Rocking chair but they had got the wrong house but I was able to solve a problem for them.  Our car was parked near the entrance gates to the shop and he could not get the van out.  Fortunately after contacting other half the key was in the house and so was able to let them do their deliveries.  They only deliver on a Wednesday.  The Rocking chair has since arrived and I am very pleased with it.  In the interim whilst dealing with the movement of our car, the electric went.  We pay by card so that we ca...

New Blanket

Image
After leaving work my fingers were itching to do something and so contrary to what I said earlier in the year I have started a blanket/throw just to keep the fingers active and busy.  They need something as they are not now typing every day.  I use my hands a lot for different things so I do not want to lose the use of them. I was going to call it my freedom blanket but now feel more appropriately that it is my blanket of dreams.  Each of the colours means something to me and I am blending the colours as I go.  Dreaming as I go.  The inspiration for the blanket came from a ball of variegated wool and I have added solid colours in similar shades to that wool together with cream as the neutral blending colour. It is still in its early days but I am pleased with how it is working out thus far.  The patterning because of the rainbow wool is also more random a pattern for me.  But I like it. As most of my rugs throws (well the smaller ones anyway) ...

Rocking Chair and Redundancy Blues

I went to the Charity shop yesterday and I fell in love with a solid pine rocking chair a companion for my fiddle-back rocker for £15. It is due to be delivered tomorrow. Where I am going to put it I am not yet sure but it is another piece I have been after for my forever home.  Another piece for the jigsaw.  It does need a little TLC but then it will be worth it in the long run.  I really like wood furniture whether that be pine, ash or Oak.  I like the sturdiness of it and the fact that it glows when it has been given some beeswax polish and a little elbow grease.  It also blends in with so many other things and gives a cohesive and individual look to a home. For now I seem to be back on the main computer - hence I hope no typos on here now. Keyboard on phone is just too slow and the keys too small for my arthritic fingers.  Too slow being the operative word. My mojo is missing at the moment - I am predominantly resting or meeting with friends fo...
