Too Darn Hot

Beautiful though it is, we have all got to be careful over the next few days. I know about how cold this house can be, but in the summer it really comes into its own as it tends to be cooler for the best part of the day and then mid afternoon it hots up. That is a blessing for Missy and Mischief.  They have plenty of access to water, but I am also wiping them down with either tepid or colder water to help with the heat.  Missy in particular does not cope with this well, however I also wipe Mischief down as well.  She has a thick coat and really seems to appreciate it.  I do have to go gently with her though. We also have a fan on directed at them. I seem to have come to a stop on house things at the moment, as the humidity is affecting me as well.  I go out into the garden of an evening when it starts to cool down a bit, but am not making much progress at the moment. Weather conditions look as though they are going to be hot all next week as well interspaced wit...

Pivot, Pivot, Pivot

Today: Well that was all the so called plans out of the window then.  Missy decided to misbehave and has been very needy today so nothing done apart from whilst she was asleep as small amount of compost reclamation.  Be grateful when G comes back. G hadn't been gone about 10 minutes when she started off.  All I wanted was a little sleep.  Needless to say that was not on the cards!  I ended up getting up and being with her as she howled every time I got up to go out.  Eventually she did nod off and that was when I escaped for a short while to do the compost reclamation. Been terribly hot out there today and I am about half way through the soil reclamation as it stands.  I am having to clear the pots anyway to get them off the patio slabs, which in turn will be weeded, swept down, and hopefully G will be able to level them up a bit.  I then want to get our old battered table and chairs on there so that we have somewhere to sit outside of the house....

A Little Bit of shopping

Image
Has taken place on the clothes front recently as my wardrobe needed slightly updating.  I have received some beautiful items from Shein and I posted on them in my previous post on Saturday 14 June 2025 Link here: Salad Days and Looking After Myself Delivery from Temu: Yesterday, I also received a delivery of items from Temu.   Notably a new Loo seat.  I had been looking for a sea based toilet seat for quite a while but refused to pay over £40 for the ones that I liked.  Whilst browsing on Temu, I found a sea shell one for £18.  I therefore sent for it and it arrived yesterday.  G has fitted it and I am very pleased with it.  Nothing fancy but something a bit different and it fits in with my sea theme for the the little room and the bathroom.  I will try and take a photo later, for some unknown reason the photographs are taking  their time to load.  Hopefully will all be sorted out soon.  Here we go. I am still waiting for a few...

Salad Days and trying to look after Me

Today would have been my Mum's birthday.  Sadly missed, went far too soon and still a huge hole where she used to be as well as for my Dad.  Mum and I used to argue a lot although I loved her dearly, I think because we were very much alike and neither of us would give in easily.  Today would have been her 90th Birthday bless her heart. Meal Planning: I am trying to get into a new habit of arranging the main meal of a day of a morning.  As it has been so unbearably hot, we do not want loads to eat.  As I have a lot of salad stuff in at the moment I have decided that for this Saturday night's tea we are going to have a meat salad platter each followed by some Strawberries and cream for pudding. Simple straightforward and does not demand too much attention which suits my mood at the moment.  It is also using up what I actually have available to me without going to the shop to top up. Activities Today: I have not done much at the present for today because of th...

Time for a Fresh Fruit Salad

Image
I started planning tea for tonight earlier on than usual being as it is such a hot day.  I do wish I was down in Cornwall at the moment. I am right off my food at present and I wanted something lighter for tea tonight. Last night for instance we had Baked Potatoes with grated cheese, butter and Coleslaw. Was not too much but enough and it went down very nicely.  I have salad in the fridge that needs using up and have Prawns in the freezer and I have therefore decided that we are having a large Prawn Cocktail as starters for tea tonight, something nice and light and fresh. I shall add in a little cucumber and tomato as well as a cheat's homemade Marie Rose sauce (made up from salad cream, ketchup, a little fresh cream with a touch of homemade Tarragon vinegar).  Just peps things up a little bit. Served with a slice of bread and butter.  No doubt G will not be impressed however, cannot always cater for just him.  I am not really into fried food these days whi...

Disaster Zone

The house and garden that is beware Minefields, Pirates, Dragons, Howling Jack Russells, Pussy Cats and Pit Holes!  Well in for a penny and in for a pound. Tuesday Night I did not finish very early last night I was still working gone 10:00pm.  Sorting paperwork, sorting rubbish, gradually getting stuff dealt with.  Getting stuff off the bed and into the back bedroom for the time being out of the way so that we can get through and I can then return probably tomorrow evening (Wednesday) and do a bit more All at sixes and sevens but things are being done.  Intend to have another early start tomorrow morning i.e. Thursday morning as I have for the past couple of days.  Intend to get some of this potting up out of the way with.  I have also found another carrier bag of seeds.  Flower seeds, not sure all are viable but there is only one way to see and that is to plant some.  I suspect this is not the last lot of seeds I will come across.  I know I ...

Bottoming Out has Commenced

In the back bedroom.  I got rid of the little bedside table, a drop leaf fires-creen/table, loads of odds and ends and three carrier bags full of books.  There will be more to go but I have made some space.  I got to the wardrobe with the books but due to lack of space and the fact that I need to go through the books in some detail I have not touched them.  I have managed to clear some space down the side of the wardrobe so items can eventually be tidied in.  I am slowly starting to be able to access where I did do a load of tidying up a couple of years ago.  So on the packing away not much achieved today but a lot of rubbish and items I no longer want have been removed.  I am hopeful that I will soon be able to really get stuck in and get things packed properly and items out of other rooms into here as well. G has been warned that the house is in more of an uproar than usual and been warned not to moan.  It is a necessary step in order that...
