Wednesday Catch up

Today I have been to my GP Practice for the Covid 19 jab. All very professional and well policed. Before you are even let through the doors they take your temperature and you are given relevant paperwork covering the injection you are to have and then they take you through to a funneling system; There was only I and another there waiting. You go through they check they have the right person with the right details give you the injection which I did not feel and then you are given a card and an egg timer. Yes - I am not joking an egg-timer. It is set as you leave the room from the injection. At our GP Practice they have added in the extra precaution of a 15 minute waiting time just after the jab to make sure that there are no imminent side effects and if there are then there is someone professional to deal with things pronto. I was then escorted into a separate waiting room until my egg timer pinged (which meant I was cooked) and I could leave the premises. I had the Pfiz...

Monday

I did not sleep well last night - up and down like a yo yo.  As a result I ended up sleeping in later as well.  Sometimes I have nights like this and I wish I didn't.  You have to go with the flow though when it happens.  As  I have been a bit sluggish as a result of the oversleep, I have taken today gradually as it were.  I have now worked 50 out of 60 of the crochet squares.  I hope to get the next 10 worked in the next few days so that I can get the bulk colour out of the way.  I will then be able to work out how many white squares I am going to need.   I am still not sure how I am going to finish this as my method with blankets of this kind is just to let my hook do the talking and the colours are added in a little at a time until I am happy with how things are flowing.  Trouble is the size of the blanket has also changed to what I had originally anticipated.  I am thinking of working a number of white squares as a surround...

Sunday Roundup

Since my earlier post, I have been sorting out a big box of needlework kits and ephemera that had got into a bit of a state.  I have ended up re-bagging a lot of it but it is now all nicely sorted.  Needless to say I have found lots more lovely things that will need working in a future.  One of the designs is a cat laying nonchalantly on a piano keyboard.   It is a ginger cat and reminds me very much of my lovely boy Tyson so one  I will get worked soon.  It is quite a few years since we lost him bless him. It is a cross stitch and so I am hoping to get stuck in on this as it not too big a design sometime soon.  I have also dug out a Christmas project which is cross stitch again and which I intend to work through the year hopefully in readiness for Christmas 2021.  It is a pre-printed cross stitch design and I would quite like to start this as soon as I can. I have not started this at the time of typing this.  Promise.  Even if I li...

Sunday afternoon

A bitterly cold grey day here in Peterborough for Valentine's Day the sort of day where you do not really want to do very much but huggle in the warmth, keep warm and chill.  Missy agrees wholeheartedly and is often found assuming the laid back position. It is on days like this that I really miss having a proper log fire or a Rayburn/Aga style cooker as they do keep the house warm.  I grew up with them as my grandmother had these and the first cottage I remember living in as a little girl also had a cast iron stove as well.  When we moved to Peterborough there was also a Rayburn fire in the house which was lovely and warm and really belted the heat out.   I have a lot I could do and I should have been doing the kitchen but that will now have to wait until tomorrow.   I am choosing instead to take time out and potter.  My pottering has included thus far reading different bits and bobs on the internet for things I want to have a go at later in this ...

The seeds I bought yesterday

Image
Just sharing the seeds I bought yesterday for growing in my greenhouses from scratch to hopefully produce a productive garden for this year. To start with a bean I remember my grandparents' and my parents' used to grow in their gardens.  Scarlet Emperor.  I bought two packets of these as I have plans for some tubs as well.  Runner beans were one of the first things I was taught to grow at school.  We had to grow them in jam jars.  Nowadays children are often encouraged to grow sunflowers as a first plant.  I have plans to grow some of these as well. Then we have Broad Bean Bunyard's Exhibition.  I need to get another packet of these.  I hated these as a kid, however I have developed a liking for them as I have grown older.  I think I like them now as when we were growing up they just used to be bunged into whatever was cooking and they were not taken out of their little sacs.  I don't like them with the sacs on but without they ar...

I and OH were up early today.  He had an appointment at our Doctors for his first part Covid 19 vaccination.  His appointment was 8:30am and he was home for 9:00pm.  He was given the Astra Zenica vaccination. He had heard a lot of comments about people not being too clever after the jab and he has a constant problem with his shoulder joint in that he is always in discomfort so being true to himself.  He got them to inject the side where he had a problem, so that if it was going to affect his arm, it would not be that much too different to normal. Only one side would be out of action.  That is logic for you.  He has been sat down since the middle of the afternoon and I have just asked him how he is and his arm is killing him.  So we shall see how things go on. About 9:30am the units turned up and then just after 10:00am, the Cornish pasties we had ordered earlier in the week arrived. We ordered them from a website called Cornwall  Pasties.  Th...

Wednesday Ramblings

Today started early as I had to get up to make sure the back gate was unlocked in readiness for the delivery of the day bed and the trundle bed for it. It had been snowing overnight and there was a light layering of snow on the roofs.  As per yesterday though it did disappear again as temperatures increased. Delivery arrived at about 10:00am and the bed is a bit bigger than anticipated.  OH set too and built up the bed (with a little assistance from yours truly),  We also got the deflated memory foam mattress onto the main bed which is primarily going to be used as a settee for the craft room/computer room/study.  It is very comfortable and I am pleased with the mattress.  In the buying guide the frame is referred to as white but in fact its colour is referred to as stone white (more like a creamy off white).  It will serve a purpose I am a little disappointed in the finish on the frame though where it has been welded and not finished off as well as it migh...
